Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Seven easy, slow miles along the GB from Veteran's Park to half mile past Glenwood Bridge and back.  I'm listening to "Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini (author of Kite Runner) right now and it is truly depressing and captivating at the same time.  Hosseini is an extraordinarily gifted writer but I don't think I could listen to his work if I were doing a tempo or hill run- it leaves me too melancholy.

Late PM:  4.91 slow, easy miles w/ a half dozen pickups in the last mile cuz that's how I roll.  Need to get close to fifty miles this week.  So far, so good.

Good run this morning and great book! Of course, I didn't try to run while I read it. I read most of it in the bathtub after my runs!

Holly,

Audiobooks are great. In fact, with four kids at home the only way I can get as much reading in as I like is to download them and listen to them while I run and commmute to work. Two birds, one stone.

Regards,

Neil
