7.7 miles around Standley Lake.  Did a 2 mile tempo in the middle at 12:17 (6:08 ave).  The rest of the run was easy pace.  7:00/mi ave.

Thinking about going to the running store today or tomorrow to get a water belt.  Something that I can carry water/electrolyte drink, and possibly gu packs or power bar pieces.  I notice that when I run for longer than 10 miles I really start to need some liquid and calories.  I have a 12 miler planned for Saturday so I want to be prepared.  When I trained for my last marathon, for long runs I just went out the night before and placed bottles of water/gatorade with powerbar pieces in plastic bags every 4 or 5 miles along my planned course but sometimes the powerbars would have bunny nibbles on them....so I'm looking for a better option.  Any suggestions on a good way to carry food/liquid on long runs anyone?

I have both a bottle waist pack (20 oz bottle) and a bunch of handheld bottles. I use the handhelds now- personal preference. I also have 2 camelbaks, but only use those for really long trail runs (3 hours+). It's just whatever works for you.

Oh, my handhelds and waist pack have just enough room for me to put a granola bar or (if I'm feeling rich) gu to eat mid-run. Or, my personal favorite, gummi bears or fruit rollups.

i agree with jon on the waist pack. added bonus if there are zip pockets to put food in. have you ever heard of honey stix? they are my new personal favorite. they come in little plastic tubes (think very small otter pops packaging) that are very light and easy to carry or stick in a pocket. you just break off the top and out comes the deliciously sweet honey. they have different flavors like cinnamon, lemon and huckleberry. mmmmm. i like them because they don't give me stomach distress like gels do, but i still get the sugar my body is asking for.

I can carry up to 4 gus in my shorts, depending on which I am wearing, then I plant water. I wouldn't wear a belt long term while training for a marathon, since that's alot of weight to carry, but that's just my opinion.
