Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran with Aubrey and Jaime.  SI felt tight, more accurately my whole right glute area from upper hamstring to lower back was tight, and was almost to form changing level.

Rheum is ordering my Enbrel today.  Starting phase 2 of training.  I figured it would come to this.  I am surprised in some ways that I got this far without it, but I am sad I couldn't go farther.  I think I will change my blog name to reflect this continuing theme.  I hope to have my first dose by Thursday.  It's coming in the mail, but hopefully will be expedited.

I am hoping that with a little more rest (now that tax season is over) and a little medication you will nip this flare in the bud Michelle. Keep up the positive thoughts!

Mail, really? Hope they pack it in dry ice. Be sure to ask about the Enbrel assist card (think it's called Enliven, or something). Will make the copay $10/month. Income doesn't matter, pretty much anyone can get the discount.

Good luck with the treatment. It's been over a year for me, and I have virtually no symptoms. It's as though I'm normal. (physically). No regrets on my part, other than wishing I had started it sooner. Just watch out for colds and infections. Get plenty of sleep, lots of vit C, vit D.

It will sting like a #####. Let it warm up to room temperature for about 20 minutes before and injection, and it will sting less.

I think with tax season over and the meds on the way you will be in your best shape ever. You are so strong, mentally and physically. I can't wait to run with you again. As of now I am hobbling around like an old lady - just give me a week or two to recover and I'll try to stay within 30 seconds of your mile repeats :)

Wishing you luck with your treatments, , ,due to Paul's description the stingy injections don't sound fun, , , ahhh! good thing you like pain (you are a speedwork queen), it should be a breeze in comparison!

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, my insurance only pays if I buy three month's at a time, through the mail. It comes overnight all cold - packed. I also have signed up for their copay assistance program, which is awesome. Melody--nice job on your marathon. I haven't seen your race report yet, but I bet there's one now, since you're commenting on my blog. I look forward to training with you again. I anticipates the shots will sting, and I might whine (advance notice :D).
