Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met MacK and ran 5 miles, then on my own.  Today is supposed to be a fast finish run, which I think means to run between 1/2 marathon and 10K pace for the last 15-25% of the run, with the last 1/4 mile even faster.

My legs still have a bit of the 9k in me, so I just did what I could on the fast portion.  I did 1.77 fast, first mile was 6:26 (per watch) and then last .77 was 6:20 overall.  I did speed up the last 1/4 mile, but it was painful and *unnatural*.  Work is piling up on me, but I am going to have a great day and conquer a lot of work :D  Hope y'all can too.

Michelle, I just noticed your January win(under "Most Commenters"). You're always giving your races your all...I could learn so much from you. Congrats on a great race! Hope your feeling top notch. From the looks of your times, I assume you're feeling 100%!?

Sounds like you're feeling the same as me... I think that downhill pounded the heck out of my legs. When is your next race?

I hope you conquered a lot today!

NICE fast finish run especially w/ feeling the 9K race in the legs! Sounds like a busy busy day w/ good stuff in the evening!

Man, I hate 9K legs and deadlines... and I'm worried about that cold..... I was remembering last night how I had a 20 miler up the canyon last summer the week after Hobble Creek (I tried hard and was really, really sore after). Even 7 days after the race I was not 100% and those 20 miles were misery. I was totally depleated. I've been reading out of my "Lore of Running" book and found that upper respritory illness/suceptiblity may be part of the overtraining cycle. I'm sure you have a lot of good information at your disposal. But there is a ton of really good information/research that's been done by top physiologists & coaches citing running data from as far back as 1913- today. Like you need something else to do with your non-free time right? Let me know if you want to peruse it sometime.
