Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

I met Sasha and the gang, which turned out to be Adam, Hyrum, Jon and Tyler.  Jon especially enjoyed the starting line feel each time we started outside Sasha's home.  We ran 2 then dropped Hyrum off.  I was nervous about trying to run long at a faster pace, so the warm up was nice (8 min pace or slower for first three miles or so).  I also got more sleep the night before to help me feel ok about doing a decent workout.  The pace just gradually dropped and it was comfortable.  I didn't have any breathing issues that I have had periodically over the last couple of weeks.   We had some nice conversations, some cheesy jokes from Sasha, including one in espanol.  At 12 miles we dropped off Adam and Tyler, and then it was Jon, Sasha and I to go out for eight more (which would give me 20, which I haven't done since the summer, my longest run in recent history was 18 at the Painters half).  Jon had some strange pain in his foot so he had an interesting stride going for a while.  We picked it up a little in mile 19 when we were discussing competitiveness (go figure).  I started to feel quite fatigued in mile 20, and I think my brain was starting to shut down.  Jon and Sasha sprinted the end and I had no desire to jump in the fray.

BTW, I saw MacK at the grocery store last night.  It was funny, she saw me just as I was starting a race with all three of my boys up and down a slow aisle.  I was able to meet her husband and her son for the first time.

ave pace 7:38, much faster than my long runs in the summer.  It didn't feel like a 20 miler like my summer runs did.  Cool!

Thanks for the run- it was good to get to know you a bit better (as compared to a 30 second introduction at TOU half last year). You'll be set up for a nice racing season this year with the shape you are already in. If you're ever in Logan, feel free to join us for a run. It was my first 20 miler of the year, too, and I agree that the weather makes it a lot nicer than summer runs, even with minimal drink stops.

No she just always threatens me that she is going to do it. I would pepper spray you if you, Cody, and Chad tried to box me in in a 10k road race, crazy!

Ok, James probably didn't answer your last question Jon because he doesn't know what he did. He actually didn't do anything wrong, it was I who did something wrong. I arranged to meet with a male stranger who I didn't know (except virtually) to run alone with him. Here's the story:

So I was whining during a run about going up to Paul's mom's house (at the mouth of Sardine Canyon) because I didn't want to do a run alone and Tom mentioned that James lived up there and that perhaps I could run with him. I asked if James was safe to run with, and Tom said yes he was a good guy. Then later Tom said he really didn't know James that well and couldn't actually verify that James didn't have bodies in a spare freezer (those aren't exact words but that was about how the conversation went). So I realized that it wasn't the wisest thing to set up a solo run with a guy I didn't really know so I warned James that I could defend myself. He hasn't warranted pepper spray (yet). It is much better to meet a fellow blogger in a group run like we did last Saturday.

Michelle, You know that you had tons of fun on our solo run together. I would be careful with guys that are rocket engineers though, that joke about boxing people in in a 10k race!???
