Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

I didn't wake up when my alarm went off!  And I had a rendevous with Jamie that I consequently missed.   I am so sorry Jamie!  I got there 20 minutes late, then drove around to see if you were around, and then ran by your home, but there were no lights on.  Perhaps I had the good fortune of you sleeping in too?

5F made for a cold morning. Tights under windbreaker pants make it hard to move the legs.  My injury felt good again today jumping right into a faster pace (first mile 7:39).

So I didn't have time to do the eight miles I wanted to do.  I threw in four strides.

Ave pace 7:54.

Are you getting psyched for Saturday?! I won't even be in the same time zone and I am already anticipating all the FRB results!

From MichelleL on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 10:21:36

I mostly am, but also have a streak of melancholy because Paul and the kids were going to come down with me and now it's looking like they might not.

My legs feel ready. I just need to try to get adequate sleep and not eat junk.

From Benn on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 10:24:59

I hear the don't eat junk part. I don't even have a race coming up and I feel like all I've been eating is junk :( doh! THeres just something about winter that makes it seem necessary for some "junk" food.

I think you're going to have a great race on Saturday. What's the course like and what weather conditions have you got predicted for the race?

From MichelleL on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 14:28:23

It is usually significantly warmer in Southern Utah, it is desert there. But there is a cold front coming in so the temperature will be about 27F for the start, too cold for shorts, I am thinking. I have never run the course, but it looks roughly like an infinity symbol, two loops winging on either side of the start finish line. From what I hear it will be rolling hills but no major hills, not a fast flat course because of some rolling hills. It starts and stops at the same place, and it is partially on trail, but there will be no ice or snow. It will be hard to know how to dress.

Thanks for the info, that is cold! (especially after Hawaii) Sounds an interesting course. I'd wear 3/4's & a long sleeve top with a slip over. I'm miserable if I feel cold.

Hey I just talked to Josse, and I am excited for you to come stay too! (Bring your own pillow, the guestbed ones arent that great)

Let me know if there is anything (foodwise) that I can get for you guys to have on hand at my house.

From MichelleL on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 15:17:17

Thanks for the warning on the pillow! I was planning on packing my own food for the morning, you know how race mornings are - we are all used to our own rituals. Thank you for being willing to host us!

Yep I am all about the rituals:) See ya tomorrow!
