Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Hello!  Yes I have still been running, it's just been a struggle to blog.  I will catch up!

Ran 6.08k in the morning nice and easy.

In the evening did about 27.5k (17.1 mile) run, last 5k fast (3:52/k pace).  No sun and ok temperature with some wind made it feel not bad when running easy, though when I started running hard the heat did get to me a bit.  It was 27C at the beginning dropping to 26C by the end, 80% humidity at the beginning, 85% at the end.  This is my longest run since my race, and my knees and one hip could feel it.  It felt like extra weight to be honest, a lot like when I was training for my first marathon (started at 150# but was down to 133# by the end of the training cycle).  Paul and I have started fat camp again.  When he is motivated to eat right it really helps me.  We are both tracking our eating on the new Super Tracker developed by the US government, which is much slicker than their prior rendition, mypyramidtracker.  I like it alot, it shows what you have eaten graphically multiple ways as you in put your eating on the same screen.  I want to lose some post-Italy weight so I can race well for the two races I plan on doing in Utah in July/Aug.

Hi Michelle, so fun to read this. I hope I get to see you this Summer. Oh and the fat camp comment cracked me up! Love it. I bet you look great! You'll have to tell me what you ate in Italy. Yum-o! I can only imagine. What races are you running here?

Hey Clay! Hope to see you this summer! I am doing Deseret News 10k, because if I am going to run I might as well run fast, then I will do a 5k, probably the Midvale 5k, on Aug 4 where I hope to be schooled by Andrea :D (She might school me twice if she does the Des News 10k).

Lily-Italy was indulgent, but I have been indulgent and stressed since then. I am now back to the correct eating principles. We will do a blog ladies lunch I'll make sure you hear about, and Marion offered to do a barbeque, so we'll let you know about that too! I will also make sure you're on my running emails if you like so we can get together to run.

I was so excited to read you'll be in town for a few weeks this summer. Your Des News time from '08 is going to be crushed!
