Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Did 30 min elliptical before the kids woke up.  Then 7.93 miles running in 60 min, that makes 7:34 pace.  I then walked about .5 mile.

Will do core this evening.  I told myself if I was good this week (and last weekend) I would see 124.something this week.  Here's to hoping.

Hi Michelle, what core are you doing? I just ordered Greg's core DVD -- it is on my "to do" list this summer (along with some drills). And, I just thought I would let you know that Dean will not be able to spend the whole month of July with me in Flagstaff, so I will be alone for at least a week, with a big house (4 bedrooms). All or some of you are welcome ... it would be great for you to meet Greg and some of the team, so keep it in mind (plus Grand Canyon is less than 2 hours away from Flag).

I want to refuse to comment on your 124. No way, you could not weigh more than 100 pounds....but again, your quads are probably steel (titanium....). Whatever,you look like a lean, mean, fighting machine. Warmer weather and yummier fresh summer food will melt away all that winter chocolate & cake we forced down your throat...

No one forced anything to go down my throat. Now I look at every choice as an opportunity to shave one second off my race time, or to add one second. The fight for good eating is fought about 10 times a day. No single choice will save you, no single choice will damn you. Dear, but chocolate slides down easy, doesn't it? :D

I agree with LuzyLew. . . you do look like a lean, mean, fighting machine - and you ARE!!! :) I really like your perspective on how each choice could effect your time . . . it's definitely a 'fight' to eat w/ virtue. . . good thing you are a 'fighter' . . .you got this girl! You'll be in the 124's in no time!
