Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

After some insomniatic hours last night, I took some Benadryl at 1am and reset my clock so now I am rushing to get out the door to work.

This morning I was on my own, and my warm up included the least pain in quite a while, just some niggling and three periods of pain for about 5 sec each.  Much better than for the past 1-2 weeks, and I was able to hit my first mile in 8:24 (have been more like 10:30 or so for first miles recently).

Did reverse Goosenest route.  Hit one mile (over half of it was downhill) in 7:00 and a couple others under 7:30.  Had to remind myself that it was an easy day and to tell my horses to wait for Saturday.

7:45 ave pace.

 Mizuno

123 lbs this morning.  Dang, I wanted to be at 120 by Saturday.  Shall I do a four day fast to make it happen?  j/k

Thanks, Michelle! I bet the 123 is just muscle though. I was angry that i was 165 still, but Emma pointed out that muscle = 3x heavier than fat, so it's probably a good thing to be holding steady or slightly gaining. Is Saturday the Painter's Half? I'm excited to see how you all do!!!

Michelle, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you last night about this morning's run. By the time I could have called you, I'm certain you would have already been in bed. Glad that your leg was feeling better this morning. You're smart to "hold your horses" for Saturday; I'm sure you'll do great.

I would not fast heading into a big race. I don't think the 3 pounds will make a difference. You are running strong. Keep yourself fueled up this week so you have the energy to kick butt at Painter's! Based on your training, you don't even have to taper much this week to still knock down a great time.

I was totally just kidding Jeff!
