Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Ran on the treadmill. Linkin Park and Foo Fighters.  It took some time to get down to 7:30 pace but settled there.  My lower calves were tight.  I think it is from the Saturday scraping.  Should it feel tight like that?  I stretched before the run and will after too.

Ave pace: 7:40

Free food at work today I am determined not to eat (last year I would indulge in this stuff-I have to stay strong!) -

brownies

chocolate chip cookies

assorted chips

sandwich wraps

potato salad

If you won't eat them, how about you send them down to me? I'll take em!

From MichelleL on Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 09:41:10

Yeah, but you probably ran more than 4 miles today.

From Christi on Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 20:47:24

Did you survive the temptation? Are you surviving tax season? Almost over!

From MichelleL on Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 21:52:58

Yeah, not really. I didn't eat any of the above with the exception of a slice of a sandwich wrap. My office mate dumped some m&m's on my desk and I ate them (not as much as a bag worth, probably 1/2-2/3 of a bag worth). I got through the day without drinking any soda with calories (I had ONLY four canned diet sodas--all caffeinated). I will accept caffeine as my major tax season vice since it helps me survive the sleep deprivation and it doesn't directly pack on the pounds like eating eight small brownies--like I might have done last year--would do. Thanks for checking up, it keeps me honest. I also survived a wal-mart trip without buying a candy bar or donut. My middle son has strep so we were there getting medication and just did the grocery shopping since we were there. Wow, I bet you didn't anticipate such a long answer.

Good job! I knew you'd be a good girl and resist the tempation but I had to ask you anyway so you could tell me in detail and curtail me from hitting the Easter candy stash again. Thanks for the motivation! (good luck getting rid of the strep at your house- yuck!)
