Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

My coach gave me mile repeats, 5-6 with 800 m rest, 5:50-6:03 pace.  Since last time I stayed just under 6:00 for 6 repeats, I thought I would try 5 and just try to be 6:00 to 6:03, especially since last week went so stinkily.  What a funny thing for him to do, anyway, giving me mile repeats on tax day.

Here's what I have to say to tax season: 1-5:51, 2-5:50, 3-5:47, 4-5:46, 5-5:42. :P  I am so thrilled!!!  I thought after the first one was faster than I was planning, that I would pay for irrational exuberance, but it turns out I was ok.  The last one was the hardest, but all the splits were good.  Never had a quarter slower than 88.  Hopefully this means I am in better shape and will do ok on my half marathon May 1st.

Ok, totally FAILED to mention that Tyler did the workout with me, helped push the pace, and took the outside of the 1 lane the whole time, so he did 5x1.05 miles, or something to that effect. The workout wouldn't have been the same without him.

MacK and Aub both came and did 1/2 mile repeats and were looking really strong and I am grateful for them coming.

Couldn't feel the knee during the workout, but felt some tightness in the ham.  Standard stuff.

I am excited to go to work with my training, and excited to have time to go to the PT.

So happy tax season is over!  Thanks so much to bloggers who kept commenting even though it might sometimes appear that I wasn't reading them--I totally was and value encouragement.  I'll try to be a better blogging buddy.

HEAVENLY TAX SEASON MOMENT FOR YOU!!! I couldn't even run 1 mile under 6 right now, unless I was on a major slant!! YOU ARE FOR SURE ELITE TO THE Nth DEGREE!! We need to clone you :D

Yea!! Good job Michelle, and Happy April 15th to you!

So, what pace was this for you? I tried to do mine at somewhere between 10K - 10K + 10 secs ... it was hard, but not too hard. For me, the hardest thing was just the duration of the workout (I was pretty tired after 2 hours being out there).

Nice work, and so happy that tax season is over tomorrow:)

I, for one, will be glad that tax season is over, simply because I don't have to see that Liberty Tax mascot dancing out in front of Main Street every day...

I had Liberty do my taxes one year back when I was newly married and in grad school. The "accountant" got confused over some savings bonds I cashed in and had to call his dad for advice. Seriously. Waste of $25.

This is beyond inspiration. You are just too ah-may-zing. It's so you-- Not worth doing, unless it's unthinkable. I am ashamed for having suggested a haitus today just to be nice. Hopefully you're good to go through MIDNIGHT!!! Good Job Michelle! Stellar speed & endurance!

From MichelleL on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 23:09:26 from 67.41.226.109

MacK-thanks for coming!

Britta--thanks, my feelings exactly.

Julie--am not, but thanks for the complement. I have to increase my dedication to get to the next level.

Bonnie-nice job on yours too. I think this is faster than 10k pace, but probably not by much. It is faster than 10k pace for me only because my speed is better than my endurance.

Paul I hear you. I assure that I do not call my Dad for tax advice--something about him claiming the dog and the cat that doesn't inspire confidence. . . I love that I work for a local firm (abt 50 employees), the partners are accessible and so dang smart. It takes a whole career to gather their knowledge and wisdom.

Thanks Clay!

Tyler, I am so sorry, I was quickly writing it up before heading to work. I added the most crucial details to the workout.

Luz--I think the double-double and the chocolate shake and the donut I consumed, all yesterday, were the magic bullet. JK, I was seriously doubting my resolve as we stepped on the unilluminated track in the dark, but am grateful I was able to do a workout.
