Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Met Tyler and Travis at the Salem track.  MacK's son got the flu so she had the joy of dealing with that instead of running with friends.  Sorry McKenzie (see, I know how to spell your name).

Workout was 4-5 1000m cruise intervals, just 200m rest in between.  3:45-3:50.

Did 2.7 miles warm up, changed into red racers and stretched, potty break.  I knew Travis would take off but I informed the guys I had to stick to pace, this isn't a "give it all you got" type of workout.  Travis took the lead on each one and was 9-13 sec faster than Tyler and I, who stuck together (Tyler just ran Boston with his wife KellieS eight days ago, or else he would have been more itchy).

1 - 3:44 (1:06 rest), 2- 3:44 (1:28 rest - I had to tie my shoe), 3-3:41, oops a little too fast (1:14), 4 - 3:43 (1:12), 5 - 3:42 (actually Tyler didn't stick with me on this one, he took off on the last lap, probably 5 sec ahead by the end),  workout was nice and short, I could have done a couple more at least without trouble, but the short rest does start to get to you.

Nice long cool down.

Travis was so nice.  He says he doesn't even consider me a girl, I run so fast.  What a complement.  I will try to live up to it.

Yep, you're FAST! You can kick them speedy boys' trash! You better believe it! GREAT SW, Michelle!

Susanna, you are awesome. Thanks so much.

Nice workout Kiddo!;)So what is that 2-1/2 times around the track? How do you determine the pace and effort? I might try that next week. Sorry for the stupid questions, but I am old and stupid...

From MichelleL on Tue, Apr 27, 2010 at 15:13:06 from 67.41.226.109

Yes Clay, this is 2.5 laps each. I used the McMillan calculator http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm, but these end up being right around my 10k pace. Notice my coach timed this workout in the week before my race, I think because it's not too grueling (partly because I only did a 5k of these, if we did 10k of them, it would have been much harder).

Hi Michelle! Great workout (much faster than mine ... ;-)). This is Greg's "bread-and-butter" pre-race workout. I think they really help keep your legs from getting too stale during the week before a race (when he does bring the volume down a bit). Why didn't you have to do the 3x200's?? I really hate those, I just can't seem to break 48-49 ... so pathetic!

:) I love that comment about being too fast to be a GIRL!!! :) It's true about that fast part, but I still think you are girlie enough !! :) Way to 'cruise' through that SW with no problem, that was probably a BREEZE for you! What race are you preparing for next week?

BTW thanks for the advice about not worrying about the (danged) scale! I needed that, I judge so much off what it says, but I need to be happier with where I'm at and just eat 'virtuously' as you call it! You are the best! and you ARE SO FLIPPING FAST. . . hey, are you really a kenyan in hiding? lol , , , , but you are SO FAST!

Nice job! Isn't your real name Michael?

From LuzyLew on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 12:44:37 from 208.187.197.42

You just tell Travis to keep up the good work and soon he too can 'run like a girl'. C'mon Michelle--you have to represent.

From LuzyLew on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 12:48:59 from 208.187.197.42

Also--I just noticed you and Sasha leading the race in the Run13.com site! I love it!

From MichelleL on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 19:55:26 from 67.41.226.109

Bonnie-guess you'll have to take that one up with Greg. He's being hard on you ;D

Luz - I am way too secure in my femaleness to be offended. AmberG "thinks" I might be girlee enough, and that's good enough for me! That picture was right at the starting line. I got second.

That is why I have never beat Michelle in a race....Ladies first!!! jk I am use to getting chicked all of the time.

Hey I just checked out your picture on run13.com ! It's so cute, , , Good luck this weekend!!!!! Go gettem GIRL! (emphasis on girl)

Travis is a blog lurker (join the blog already, Travis!) and hopes I am not offended and that he doesn't really think that I am a guy. Ha, ha! His comment only amused.
