Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

AM: 5 miles very easy on the tm.

PM: Track workout at night.  I had horrible sleep last night and no time for nap today so came wasted and Coke-Zero tweaked.  So also needing to pee every 5-10 minutes in my warm up.

Coach modified the workout since Ali is t + 2.5 days from a hm and t - 5 days to a marathon, so she was doing HM pace (93 per lap), and I was doing the first two laps with her, then surge for the last two (5:50 total goal, so 2:45 second 800 in the mile).  So 93,92,83.82.  Something like that.  The first two laps sometimes felt like jogging, sometimes felt hard when facing the wind (windy AGAIN).  Full lap recovery, so about 3 minutes rest:
 #  Time Breakdown Rest
 1 5:51 3:06 2:452:39
 2 5:49  3:26
 3 5:48   2:44
 4 5:46  3:08
 5 5:47  3:03, 2:44 3:00
 6 5:46 3:02, 2:44 3:37
 7 5:35 3:00, 2:35

On the last one, coach said I needed to bust a move but to not cheat (by making the first two laps faster), so I did a bit of both.  I cheated just a bit (both laps were 90) then the third lap was 80 and the last lap was 75.  I felt so good being able to do this being tired.  Both my legs were tired and I was just underrested.  Ali just did the first 5 and another girl Sarah jumped in on the 4th one and she had two more when I had finished, so I paced her on another mile after my #7 above, so it was a 6:07 mile I counted as threshold.

Thanks guys.

Cam- MD makes me want to vomit, no offense. Plus it is 3x as expensive as coke zero here. They actually can coke zero here which makes it more reasonable.
