keep running, stay fit and healthy, while having fun. Would like to get my mileage up to 25 miles a week and plan some short races when I get confident with my speed.

So I went running with my friend Kara today. I'm not sure what to think of the run, loved the company and definately feel like I got a much harder workout than normal but our avg. pace was 9:49. I usually hit around 9:58 and it's not uncommon for me to have a 9:49 average, so I don't know what made todays run that much harder? At the top of a aprox. 1 mile steady climb, that isn't that steep but never levels off, she stopped us and checked our pulse, mine was around 190-200. I felt like that was a little high, but Kara didn't get to excitted and when I asked she said the only way to get it down is to keep running. She suggested to add sprints in the middle of a run from time to time, I fugure like fartleks and she thought that would help too? So my analysis for today is good workout, felt like I pushed myself pretty hard, but a little confused as to why it was so hard? I'll look forward to running sometime next week with her again, but I'm not sure I could manage a long 7-10 mile run unless she tired out. Another difference is that cardiovasularly she is more fit, when I start to get tired, she was just feeling her body kick in and had some ummph, when I was feeling ummphed out!

Good job today! I would guess the reason it was a little harder at about the same pace is that you were probably chatting and I know I usually slow down a little when I'm with other people to make up for that. Sounds like she would be a good partner on days you want to push it a little. Way to get through it though!

Some days the same effort feels harder. As you continue to gain fitness, this will lessen over time. Then you'll start adding miles or speed work and it will happen again. Happy fitness!

Hey- I tried calling you earlier. Give me a call when you have a minute. I have a family question. ;)

Michelle, great workout. I have found it is great to run with someone faster a couple of times a week. Anymore than that could cause problems. Use your runs with her as your hard workouts. Great to have a running partner. Michelle, ask Darrin if he has brothers named Roger, Scott, Terry? Roger works at the Richfield Reeper. BTW, Lybi is a hoot, fun to read her blog.

Sounds like a great workout! Don't get too frustrated. Sometimes my body just says it is not up to it. Plus, maybe the climb (you did say you climbed some right?) switched the workout up enough that your body was a little confused- broke the ol plateau effect? Always good to break through the same old and mix things up. Give you something to work toward. Gotta love the running partners.

Hey you have a running partner now!! That's good right? Don't overthink this 1 run. They can vary so much day to day. I agree w/ Mik'L maybe it felt hard because you were chatting. Also w/ Brent- good to run w/ people faster sometimes, but not all the time. I try to get together w/ my fast friends about 1x a week to keep me on my toes- but can't do it everyday. I'm glad you have someone to run with though!
