When I got off work I decided to go to the race in monroe. I rode over with a friend, and by the time we both got changed and ready it didn't leave time to warm up. But the race was getting started late that left us standing around waiting and getting verrrrryyyy sleepy not moving. I had decided that this was indeed not a race for me, due to 2 nights of night shifts, and still having sore calves from Martins Cove. Just motivation to get a run in in the a.m. so I didn't have to do it later and think about it all day. When we finally got started I was determined to start slow and steady or I new that I would be out of steam for the last mile or so since I have never done more than 3.5 after no sleep. I don't know what my mile times were, but my pace felt good, not to fast, but not getting left clear behind. I was surprised that it didn't feel more difficult than it did and things were going good. The last two miles a very annoying guy played leap frog with me the rest of the race. He would stop and walk and then run passed me, then stop and walk till I got about 20 feet ahead and do it again. When we turned the corner to the finish line he ran ahead and came in just before me (AGGHH!) I did have a little reserve to speed up but not quite enough! All in all it was probabley my favorite race of the summer. I liked the course a few small hills but mostly pretty even and a good route. I'm glad I got out in the morning and now I can relax for the rest of the day! (I asked at the end if it was exactly 5 miles and they said it was only 4.8) |
