Short-Term Running Goals:

keep running, stay fit and healthy, while having fun. Would like to get my mileage up to 25 miles a week and plan some short races when I get confident with my speed.

Kinda slow and steady was how it went today. I got all dressed in my best warm clothes to go running in the afternoon after I woke up. I didn't get but a .10 of a mile and I passed a guy in my ward walking in shorts. I knew at that point I was probably overdressed ( but I still think he was a little underdressed too!) I at that point took off my gloves. After catching a little (Not all) of a discussion about easy runs between Brent and Lybi, decided to just go easy today. The run felt really good and the weather was georgious!!! I wore my sunglasses because of the beautiful bright day and the sun reflecting off the white snow. It was so pretty! I eventually pealed off a layer of clothes but not untill about half way through the run, so I think I was dressed almost right. Some days I'm so glad that I have a good reason to be outside and enjoy the great weather even if it is cold out, today was one those paydays!!!

(Tomorrow have mtgs. all day and hope to get some good mileage in inspite!)

So, I'm just wondering ... when you start your runs - and you know you're going 5 miles or more - do you have to fight a mental "wimp out" urge? It seems like I always want to wimp out around .5 or 1 mile. I was just wondering if that urge ever disappears in more experienced runners?

I think you're awesome for running in the snow! I have yet to try that - but my time is coming, I'm sure!

Good luck with your meetings tomorrow.

And good job, as you told Laura, just getting out on a Monday is a good thing.

By the way, what discussion between Brent and me are you talking about?

Beautiful description of your run today. I'll try to remember that getting up is worth it- at 6:00 am tomorrow when my alarm goes off. And- your neighbor is crazy in shorts! I always want to be warm so I start off w/ a goofy headband and gloves and end up carrying them by the end of the run!

Laura, Today I was aiming for about 3.5 when I headed out and then it was so nice and I felt good so I kept going. That's the way it is more often than not, I decide to go more about 2-3 miles into it.

Lybi, Maybe I was dreaming but I thought that you two commented about the benefits of running easy and pushing it a couple of days a week? Maybe that's just what I wanted to hear today!! (worked as a good excuse for an easy run he,he!)

Christi, That's what I did today head band, gloves two layers.. I'd rather peel off than freeze! 6:00 a.m. will be totally worth it around 7:30! (Just kidding) Even at 6:15 you'll be glad that you did it!!

I am always peeling off layers - easier to do than freeze. Great job getting the miles in today.

Hope all went well and the doctors last week.
