Short-Term Running Goals:

keep running, stay fit and healthy, while having fun. Would like to get my mileage up to 25 miles a week and plan some short races when I get confident with my speed.

Get my mileage back up and run pain free!

I told myself that if I got out right when the kids left for school, I was sure my run would go better than the last couple of days. I was right!!! Probably the best run for the week. Felt good almost all of the run. The one hard part with a good hill that's at the golf course, a cute little older man in a decked out golf suit and clubs saw me coming and walked back into the road and acted like he was timing me! ( Good thing he didn't really have a stop watch, it would have been pathetic up that hill). but he was a nice distraction! I also did a few fartleks? They were not too impressive, but about 5 of them that seemed to break things up too! All in all a good run. I didn't run with McCall last night so I'm not sure if that is one of the reasons that I felt a little more spunky? But if that's the case I will just have to buff up and still do both. Those nice relaxed miles with her are fun and I'm not willing to give them up. Ohhh and I took one asprin, one ibuprofen today and not even a squeek of hip pain. Maybe that has to do with no evening run last night too? Well it's finally Friday! By far my favorite day of the week!!!! YEA!!!

Michelle, I've had that same sort of exercise 'malaise' that you talked about in an earlier post. It's frustrating because I can see no direct cause for it. But I have come to the same conclusion as you, that I just have to slug it out and do my workout anyway. Once I get started it's ok. I've also noticed that the earlier in the day I get my walk or bike in, the better, for as the day goes on I seem to be more resistant and better able to rationalize not doing anything. You are doing great, so hang in there!

Congratulations! You are running well. Look at your posts from July and August and you will see your improvement. Aren't farleks fun? Sometimes I "throw one down" when I feel especially tired and running faster actually makes me feel better. I think the change of pace, stride and muscle fibers/groups helps. I did that today at one point while I was in the hilly section of the course and thought I might be slowing down.

I love the description of the golfer! What a nice surprise and distraction.
