Great day for a run. Temp at the race start was 43 degrees, clear sky, and no wind. I haven't ever run with 4000 people before so it was kind of awesome to be corralled by time and then to see the stretch of people flowing from the starting gate.
This course was a seriously hilly course. I don't think the elevation chart did it justice. Thank heaven for race day endorphins. The scenery was really gorgeous. I found a few new places in SLC I would like to explore further. Started out with about an 8:20 pace for the first six miles and then started to lose it. I definitely needed more hill training for this race. I had set a goal to run under 2 hours and I met that goal. It was a great feeling. It made me evaluate my race and compare it to my training and make me see what I can do to improve so I set a new goal by the end of the season to run under a 1:50. I really think I can do it.
Need to work on: more outside runs. The treadmill is a safe zone for me, I tend to just jump on it mid-day instead of waking before my husband and getting out before he leaves. I need to run further. I had increased my weekday runs to 5-6 miles but still only ran 3-4 times per week. I need to run 4-6. I need more miles on my legs.
This race was very well put on. The organization, volunteers, aid stations, police support, post race party were all perfectly executed! I probably won't chose this race again simply because it was a tough course. Just when you thought you had finished the hill you turned the corner... Loved getting an early season race in.
