The hubris a little weight loss will give a guy. Yeah, that and a decent showing at the
Sogonapmit and you think you can take on the world with one hand tied behind
your back.
If only…
I have heart issues.
Besides the fact I wear it on my sleeve.
I suffered 1 ½ bouts of Rheumatic Fever as a young’un and had to deal
with a heart murmur for a while (still might have a slight one), and I eat like
crap—cholesterol hasn’t seen anything below ‘high’ for some time. So, I’ve been working on improving my diet,
cut out 95% of my soda consumption, and have been working with a personal
trainer since mid June.
I've lost 15 pounds, and then surprised myself running up
and down AF canyon as fast as I did three weeks ago.
I thought to myself after the Sogonapmit that I needed
something else—St. George was too far off.
Park City has a nifty little marathon: why not run that little gem
again? I signed up after some slight
nudging.
Let me state at the outset, I’m very happy with my
results. It’s a Park City Marathon PR
for me!
Somewhere between 2008 when I last ran Park City and
Saturday, I forgot how unkind those first 16 miles can be. And how hard it is to pick things back up in
the final 10. At least for me.
I think I enjoyed this Park City effort more than the
previous 4, I just wish I could figure out how to pace myself better.
Someday, maybe.
In my less-heavy-hubris, I thought I could get a 4 hour race
in. Maybe even sub-4 if I was
lucky. Well, I got lucky with a 4:10—and
even then, only just. I’m going to blame
it on the 3 sets of leg extensions I did Friday morning.
