10.84 miles / 1:43:42 / 9:34 A.P. / Lehi-Jordan River Parkway Great run this morning with Kathie, Kimmie, Smooth, Kelli, Teena, Davy Crockett, and LuzyLew...
Splits are 10:13, 8:55, 8:43, 10:04, 10:47, 13:24, 8:35, 8:20, 8:18, 8:36, and 7:40 for the .84. Good times! I'll report more later when my daughter isn't pestering me to get moving. OK, here's the long of it--from my perspective anyways. Long is relative given that I only ran 10.8 and most everybody else ran 18 (and some ran even more than that). When I left my place at 7:40, shorts and a fleece pullover felt like plenty--and then the fleece might have been too much. At the trailhead there by the Jordan River it became overly apparent that the fleece pullover was great, the shorts might not have been the best choice. Oh well. I started out running with Davy Crockett--the renowned local ultra runner--talking about my experience with Squaw Peak, the 13 miles he had just finished on his treadmill prior to meeting everyone on the trail, the Buffalo Run and his plans to run the 50 mile course--twice. I think my jaw dragging along the trail slowed me down some cause just before we hit the 1-mile mark he had left me in the dust. For the next 3 miles I ran along side Teena Marie and Kelli and found myself entertained and occasionally amused with their conversation. At 3 1/2 miles I started having some stomach problems and ended up walking a bit between there and the turn around. From there back to the cars, however, I felt much better and kept a decent pace, eventually catching up to everyone but Davy, Teena, and Kelli (although they did come back about a quarter of a mile and run back to the cars with us). I was able to meet and visit with LuzyLew a bit there at the end as well.
Everybody but Kathie, Kimmie, and I kept on running--true dedication right there I'll tell ya! Not that Kathie or Kimmie don't have true dedication--they had both run a couple of miles before the rest of us even showed up. I, on the other hand, had a daughter at home waiting for me. And once I did get home, she was anxious for me to get moving on to bigger and better (read more entertaining for her) things. So, that's it. I'm sorry, Teena, that my early departure messed things up, but I'm sure there will be other opportunities--like next week maybe (although I don't know if I'm ready to hit 22, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to make an attempt given I've got a 50k in just over a month...). Anyways, Smooth, thanks for pulling this run together. Let's do it again! It was a blast!
