Got the okay from my doctor to do showshoeing this week (of course - he also said it would be fine because people "don't snowshoes non-stop without breaks"). Signed up for the 5K at the Kahtoola Bigfoot Showshoe Festival. Figured the 10K would be too much. And I wanted to get above the muck. Really foggy when I headed out. And the course was icy - so not groomed and you had to try to stay in the ruts or break the crust off the main trail. There were 25 total participants in the 5K. I took 9th overall, 6th in women and 3rd in my age group. It was fun learning how to snowshoe. Biggest complaint - when the 9:00 races went off there were a bunch of people who were up near the front that had no intention of running a step and were walking side by side with friends. Get a clue folks! Start at the back. For most of the race I alternated running 100 steps with walking 100 steps.
I had fun and did another lap of the 5K when I was done. Next year - I plan on trying the 10K.
