Short-Term Running Goals:

After 1/9/2010 - I am taking a year off from marathon length distances and focusing on building up my base speed on half marathons and shorter distances.

2010 Speed Goals:

  • Build up my base speed on training runs to 10 MM miles or better
  • Half Marathon - break 2:05 (9.5 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 1 - break 1:00 (9.67 MM avg)
  • 10K Goal 2 - break 55 minutes (8.87 MM avg)
  • 5K Goal 1 - break 26.35 minutes
  • 5K Goal 2 - break 25 minutes

Long-Term Running Goals:

Long Term Goals:

  • Complete a 100 Mile race
  • Complete a 100 K race
  • Break 12 hours in a 50 mile race
  • Run all portions of the Wasatch 100 course
  • Break 5 hours in a marathon
  • Break 4.5 hours in a marathon
  • Qualify for and run Boston

Rest day today.  I'll just take the puppy on some short walks.

Interesting night - I woke up at 2 a.m. when I should have been exhausted and, after laying there for an hour, got up and ate something hoping I was just hungry. Still couldn't fall asleep, so tried taking off the compression shorts and stockings and fell asleep a few minutes later.  Interesting though - as soon as I took off the compression shorts, I found that my quads were really aching from yesterdays run.  Did not feel it at all while wearing them.

Legs were heavy when walking the dog.

Talked to the Race Director's wife about the course on Saturday. She says there is a lot of mud and snow up on Logan Peak - so I know which shoes to wear to keep my feet dry.

I don't think I could wear anything tight when sleeping. How are your quads now? Hope they're not sore anymore. Remember to hydrate well today and tomorrow. Mud and snow does not sound good to me. Especially after reading about Crockett's Bighorn 100. Yes, the right shoes will be critical. GOOD LUCK. You will do awesome. I really admire ultra trail runners. :)

Wow!!! I go away for two days and look what happens!!! Maurine, that sounds like a serious trail run!!!!! Good luck, I am going to be excited to hear all about it. The elevation gain sounds brutal!!!! I think we are going to try the Crest again, so I will have some mud and snow too, but not any where near the climbing you will be doing. Are all the body parts working okay? I will be thinking of you!!!!!

Steve - they actually have discontinued these shoes - but I like them. I got two pairs at Striders on closeout (half price at around $50) this spring. You might want to see if you can get a pair online.

Les - yep - feeling good and excited and scared about the challenge. However, this will also give me a good indication if some of the larger and harder trail races are within my capabilities.
