Leslie came down and joined me for a morning run. Since we left a little later (5:30) - I had some time to play with the puppy and sit over a heat vent to get warm.

6.2 miles total - 1:12:46

2 miles warmup

3 miles speedwork - 10:07 / 10:04 / 10:08

1.2 miles slow/cooldown

Leslie at first only wanted to do under 11 minute miles, then she decided on 10:30 pace.  I told her to tuck in behind me, but she was doing pretty good and actually running faster, so I just stayed next to her and called out the pace every 25-50 steps.  About halfway through she started getting tired, so I had her tuck in behind me because we had a slight headwind. She thinks that helped a little.  She wanted to do the last mile at 10:30 pace, but her pacer had other ideas and I actually was keeping her between 10:00 and 10:15 - with a final sprint at the end.

Great job, Leslie!  I am proud of you.

Okay girls, thanks! Just watch next week- one of those 3 miles will be in the 9's!!! Not all 3 yet, but maybe in 3 weeks, do you think?? That would be a PR for sure!!!

Absolutely!!! PRPRPRPRPRPRPR (coining Marion). Maurine, I forgot to add, you're gonna ROCK this Sat. GOOD LUCK on your 5K. I'll bet you can shoot for sub 25.

Wash your mouth out, Smooth! I don't want to hurt that bad.

I am getting faster, but not as fast as you. My dreams of doing a BQ are still that - dreams only.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 16:41:55

Maurine, that BQ is closer than you think. You are doing a great job in reaching all your goals.

Use those shorter races, 5-10Ks, as speed workouts. Run the longer races as long training runs with aids and benefits. Stay focus and you'll peak at SGM for a BQ. Keep up the good work!
