Leslie and I held the first ever Millcreek Invitational 5K this morning.  Our goal was to break 30 minutes in a 5K and we thought the downhill course would be perfect for that.  I was trying a new setting on my Garmin - didn't get the one I planned on, but this one worked fine.

We found a starting line painted on the road and after a warmup, headed on down.  Leslie was a little bit feisty and we got stopped for directions and she said a naughty word. (Yikes - my ears). She didn't think she could break 30 minutes, but I knew she could on a downhill course, so I stayed with her to nag and motivate her.  I was very proud of my 'little grasshopper'.  When we got to the 3 mile mark I sprinted ahead and challenged her to pass me if she wanted to buy me breakfast. Luckily - we tied.

PR Time:  Total Race: 26:42/ Average: 8:36/ Best: 5:04

Mile 1 - 8:29, Mile 2 - 8:49, Mile 3 - 8:38

Leslie said this run was about a 9-9.5 on a scale of 10 for effort for her.  She did great.  I think my fitness has improved because I was probably at a 5-6 on a scale of 10 and didn't really have to push at all.

My previous 5K PR was 31:28 on a 'short course'.

Congratulations on the PR. How much downhill was it? Could you have run it faster?

Wow Tarzan, what a breakthrough! Great job!

Sasha - It was probably 2.5 miles of good downhills. Yes, I could have run it faster - but my goal for today was to break 30 minutes and motivate Leslie to run faster.

As I mentioned - I was only at a 5-6 on a scale of 10 in exertion - so I could take a few more minutes off on a downhill course like this.

AWESOME!! You guys did great, some speedy times. That is great that your effort was just medium for the run---as it should be! And i bet it was beautiful!

I just can not see the afore mentioned grasshopper uttering a naughty word!!

Way to go ladies! I am SO proud of you! Maurine it takes friends like you to get us REALLY CUTE, but somewhat slower girls going!

FAntastic time! Dang it! Holy cow!!!

Maurine- you may be heading for a sub 4 marathon... who knows! The human potential is an AMAZING thing!

Kelli - let me know when you want to do the 1st Millcreek Invitational 10K Race. That was the next on my plans. To do a sub 60 minute 10K.

Maybe I was wrong. Maybe Leslie was talking about a female dog that I couldn't see. :)

Marion - glad I have a role in life. A BQ would be my dream race - but I will have to work a lot LOT harder in order to do so.

We just have one more weekend of soccer, and then I am pretty much free!! YEAH!

Dang dogs, they need to just get out of your way (and Leslie's) when you run. That, or we can wash her mouth out with soap!!!

Honestly, I never SWEAR!!! Until I have to wait in a really long porta potty line while running a marathon and the people in there are taking so long with no consideration for everyone else who is having an emergency outside of the door waiting and waiting and waiting!!!

99% of the battle is being willing to work hard, very hard, and you KNOW how to do that! You ROCK!!!
