OK - today has to have been the worst run of my life.  I had to force myself out of bed even though I had been having horrible dreams all night involving my son and his friend, my mother and a cell phone.  I never warmed up on the run. My body felt stiff and sore and cold and achy.  On the long uphill I was going between 15:00-16:00 pace and on the downhill I think I got to a blazing 11:00 pace.  I'm going to call into work for a few hours off and see if going back to bed with a mug of hot chocolate and my electric blanket makes me feel better.

On the positive side - I wore my shoes that I had screwed my La Sportiva hobnails into and did not slip once.  They were a good investment.

Just got an email that they cancelled Red Mountain!  Now I need some chocolate......

We at Red Mountain 50K sincerely regret to inform you running enthusiasts that our races will not be held this year due to multiple reasons---Economic slowdown perhaps being the primary reason.  We at Red Mtn Running have been committed to providing a "high quality race experience" put on " by runners for runners".  And we hope to offer a Southern Utah spring Ultramarathon or similar in 2010.  Thank you for considering our race, and to those of you who participted by running or volunteering your time and efforts, we  cheer you and are very grateful fo count each of you as friends.  We will be sending refund checks to you in the next two weeks.  Thanks again and look for us in the future.  Happy Running!

Way to look at the bright side of things! Tomorrow will be better. You have had some great runs as of late, so one bad run is nothing!

From tarzan on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 13:27:54

Kelli - I hope so. I think (between last night's 'run issues :)' and today's that I might have the flu.

I went back to bed after my run this morning in flannel pj's, with two blankets and my electric blanket at top speed and was still cold when I woke up.

Now I am at work doing my best to spread the wealth.

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 16:48:41

So sorry you're feeling icky. I have the gamboo too. No running today for me. Glad you got her done. Now stay warm and conquer that flu.

A race cancelled due to economic downturn? Very sad. I'm sure you'll find another 50 miler somewhere. Keep on training.

I did not get that e-mail, and I am signed up! I may just CRY!!! I was so excited.

I went to the website and it does not say a thing. Do you think someone is playing a joke on you???? I am hoping that is the case.

From tarzan on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 19:21:17

Kelli - it was only this week that I was notified that they had received my registration.

It was from the race director - so, unfortunately, I think it is true.

I wonder why they have not updated the website with this information??? This is such a bummer!

From Marion on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 19:41:39

I am sorry about your run and the canceled race. I felt your frozen run today. I was a brick of ice!

From leslie on Fri, Jan 09, 2009 at 10:44:17

I am sorry you are feeling crappy!!!!! How are you this morning? I am still bummed about Red Mountain, alot of things are rolling around in my head, we must talk!! Do take care. I assume, you are not running tomorrow. I need to get in afew miles, but I don't have a plan yet. Stay warm and keep drinking hot chocolate!!

From tarzan on Fri, Jan 09, 2009 at 11:18:09

Don't make any assumptions about Maurine. You just want me to help pay for meals for people who wimp out on the competition. Never! Bwahahahahaha!

Am I the only person not receiving email notifications from blog postings today?

From leslie on Fri, Jan 09, 2009 at 15:57:23

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 09, 2009 at 18:01:56
