Personal:

Married to Elizabeth (she got me running in 2003). We have three boys, Lucas (12) , Sam (8) and Ollie (5).

Many years ago, I read that the AVERAGE male is capable of a 2:40 marathon.  I decided to test that theory.  I began running in 2003 with Top of Utah as my first marathon (4:24).  I need 3 more minutes.

Race: Park City Snowshoe Stomp (3.27 Miles) 00:22:00, Place overall: 1, Place in age division: 1
Total Distance

I ran the Park City Snowshoe Stomp 5K this morning along the rail trail.  They had a running shoe division, so I gave it a try.  I put a couple of hex-head screws into the heals of my shoes and off I went.

It was a small race with less than 150 (estimate) people.  75% were snowshoe runners.  The course was an out and back with slight downhill to the ½ point.  I warmed up on the course.  The only way I could keep any footing was to stay in the middle of the trail where other people had packed the snow down.  I would sink below my ankles on the middle edges and down to my shins on the outer edges.

I lined up in front to get a good start and felt fine the first mile (5:45).  I began to slip in the snow the second mile-it was not packed as well (6:51).  The third mile was extremely tough.  My legs and lungs were burning from the cold (15 degrees).  I had to run on the edges due to all the other runners on the trail.  The last mile was a 7:32 pace.  At the 5K point I was 20:57, but the course was long so at 3.27 my time was 22:00 (according to my GPS).  I should have an official time posted later this week.

Running in the snow is hard.
