Personal:

Married to Elizabeth (she got me running in 2003). We have three boys, Lucas (12) , Sam (8) and Ollie (5).

Many years ago, I read that the AVERAGE male is capable of a 2:40 marathon.  I decided to test that theory.  I began running in 2003 with Top of Utah as my first marathon (4:24).  I need 3 more minutes.

Well, with the weather almost 70 degrees outside, I could not resist a run.  3 miles around Liberty park.  It felt like 15 miles.  My back is fine, but the legs are out of shape (no matter what people say-elliptical training is not a good substitute for running). Almost 60 days since the last run, so I'll take it!

Congratulations! That had to be good for the soul.

Were you cleared by you doc? I'm seriously impressed and encouraged by your rapid recovery Mark. BTW, I had similar thoughts of going for a run but I suppose I'd best walk before I run.

3 miles!!! I'm glad your recovery is on track/wood chips.

Yeah, 3 miles is actually great. However, I agree...the elliptical is not the same. You'll be back with a vengeance soon!

I am concerned that you haven't posted since this run...

LOL--Sorry. Work got busy so I've been traveling a lot. With my work schedule and a new baby due in a couple of weeks I plan to begin training May 1--which is what my Dr. recommended.

Interestingly, ever since the run, the big toe on my left foot is back to 100%--no tingling! The only reminder of the back surgery is a little leg weakness that gets better everyday.

Glad to hear everything is on track. Good luck with everything. I have been racing against your Striders times from last year. They provide a good idea of what to expect next.

Good luck at Ogden!
