I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

OK- it was just as I suspected- the treadmill is evil!  Apparently on the treadmill, you run differently and I am a loser extreme case.  My calves LOVE the treadmill and my hamstrings hate it.  Dr Brady wants me to run with an incline to get my calves working more and give a break to my hams.  The knee problem is from my hams.  I guess that jumping on a treadmill after No treadmill work can be like having a non runner go and run 5 miles.  The way I run on the treadmill is very different from my outdoor running.  he wants me to ease into the treadmill as not to injure my hams.  He worked my right foot today.  Hopefully this neuromas will give up soon!  He also gave me a new fangled strap thing to correct my something or other in my stride.  I apparently externally rotate my right foot.  Anyway, I'll figure this all out with the amazing expertise of Dr. Brady!  I am going to get two miles on the treadmill today and hopefully some outside.  We'll just have to see.  I'll modify my log if necessary.

*** I did 5 miles on the treadmill with lots of stretching amid running.  I ran 2.5 then fixed dinner and then ran the rest.  I stretched 6 times total, two long bouts of stretching after each 2.5 miles.  The hams feel great and the calves are their usual whiny selves.   Oh, I forgot to mention Dr Brady wrapped my right foot to form an arch support while we wait for the orthotics to come back.  He also put a chinese herbal patch on my neuroma and did an ultrasound and laser treatment on it too.

So glad Dr. Brady had the answers for you. Who'd know there are so many things to learn about the mechanics of running. Thought we just put one foot in front of the other. All my non-running friends would die if they hear about all the injuries we can get. Take good care of all your running parts so they're "running" smoothly. I'm going to shovel the 6" of snow off my drive way now before heading to the store.

Oh my goodness, this is so very complicated! I am glad you are figuring it all out. I need to go now and eat some more holiday treats! I have been HORRIBLE!

Thanks ladies!

I ran 2.5 with the incline at 2.5 and it killed my calves so Ta Dah! I guess my hams are off the hook. I am going to run 2.5 more tonight.

Life is good! :D I love running!!!

I can't run on a tread mill. I give you points for doing it. (Not like Camille points are worth anything).

Way to keep going even when you don't want to. I hope all the taping, patching, ultrasound stuff helps.

From marion on Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 22:52:26

For the 80+ dollars is was, I hope it helps! I am sure it will! Of course it will!! FORE SURE IT WILL!!!!!

The incline on the treadmill will work your heart more, too! Gotta find the bright stuff. I'm glad my neuroma finally got so I could ignore it years ago.

Hey Maurine! I am used to running uphill for at least half of my runs, so that is good. On my second half of my second half I lowered the incline because I was dying! It seemed to be ok on my hams, so yippee!!!
