Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Wow! Today was SOOO much nicer.  Best run I've had in months!!!  It poured last night so today it was cool and fragrant.  YEA!  There is an inverse relationship between the temperature and my running enthusiasm.

I got all excited today looking at upcoming races.  I want to run the Moon Valley Grasshopper Bridge 5K BARE FOOT this year and hopefully get a new personal record.  (Shauna, you must come if you can--you are my lucky charm.  What else explains my last 5k PR?   I've heard that elite athletes are very superstitious...so, if I can't be as fast as them, I figure that at least I can be as susperstitious...There are also some local half marathons coming up that I am...hmmm...seriously starting to...possibly consider...at some point.

Tomorrow we are heading off to Florida for a week.   I am SO excited about that.  (But geez, has anyone else noticed that we are gallavanting off to a different state every other week?!)    Anyway, I packed running clothes!  But I won't be able to blog.  Take care, bloggies!  I'll catch up with you guys when I get back.  Be good:  just say "no" to carbonated drinks.

Let me know what halfs are coming up. I'd like to do some, too.

Enjoy Florida! I had to laugh at the last line of your entry, as I found it extremely difficult, but I gave up my addiction to diet Soda in 2006. Still going strong :)!

yes....I've noticed the traveling...I'm so jealous..Florida. I hope that you can find some delights amidst the craziness of traveling with children. Good luck on your barefooted race...I laughed out loud about the superstitious elite athletes...ooo..so funny and true, I'm sure. Have a nice trip.

Florida is so BEAUTIFUL! Don't get eaten by an aligator :D

(Hey- I am 2 days off soda)

Glad to hear you had a good run - A week in Florida will probably make you appreciate the Arizona dryness more!

Have a great trip. I'm sad you can't blog from Florida. I love to read the vacation running. It's like being there, kind of. Do tell when you get back. Enjoy the amount of sweat out there. I guarantee you'll never sweat as much during a run than on the East Coast. It's nutty. Enjoy!

Say hello to my home state for me. I hope you get in a beach run while you're down there. Its hotter than heck this time of year, but I know you'll have a blast!

From Shauna on Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 13:11:21

Hey, have fun in Florida! You've already been there for a few days by now. I'll have to miss the Moon Valley race because it's the weekend before St. George, and I'll be out of town. I'm going to Austin, TX for a music festival. Late nights, and lots of bad food and loud music: not the ideal way to spend the weekend before a marathon, but it will be FUN! I will be running while I'm there, so I'll run the 5k with you in spirit! :-) I am always up for a local half, though...

Enjoy Florida. I'm sure the heat won't bother you at all, you might need to even bring a sweater to keep warm :)

From Walter on Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 17:31:07

It must be nice to see some rain down there huh? I would definately be out in it with that stubborn heat you get. Keep up the good work lybster!

Burt--there is a half in Flagstaff on August 9th. Check out http://www.arizonaroadracers.com/Calendar/calendar.php for other localish races.

Benn--Yea! Good job keeping away from that stuff for 2 1/2 years. Keep it up, buddy.

Sarah, thanks, we had a great time and the boys all slept well and played hard.

Marion--Good job! I hope you are still off the bubblies. I didn't get to experience an alligator in the wild, but I did eat some alligator meat at a restaurant. Didn't taste like chicken...more like a pork chop cut into thin strips.

Lucia--I loved the weather in Florida. I'd trade it in a minute for AZ summers.

Luz--yes, I sweat so much on my outside runs that I could've convinced someone I'd jumped in the pool. It was funny.

Christi--I didn't know you were from Florida! What a beautiful state. It didn't seem hot to me, but maybe they were having unseasonably cool weather. It was cloudy a lot.

Shauna--What? I'll have to cancel Moon Valley...just kidding. We'll have to see about that local half when it cools down a little. That music festival sounds fun! (Just make sure you get your ZZZZ's okay? Sleep in!)

Mark--I actually did get cool a time or two! The air conditioning was too cold. Thanks for the warning. ;)

Walter--are a you a rain runner too? Cool, we need to stick together. There aren't very many of us. I get the most comments from people when I run in the rain....Like people will stop their cars just to ask if I'm okay and need a ride or something.

From Walter on Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 23:58:55

It has to be hot outside to start running in the rain. If its a cold morning and its raining, my give a d*&^ is usually busted. But thats hilarious people actually stopped you to see if you need a ride. funny
