Prs:

1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2 miles in crocs at 10:09 pace on ave. A little ouchy, but felt better as I went along.

Yesterday I returned the shoes I got last Monday and I ordered some Vibram Five Fingers from Steve Hooper. This is the color and model I am getting:

They are basically shoes for people who want to run barefoot. More like socks, really...but the sole is tough enough to provide protection against glass and stickers. Only 4.4 oz each! I'm really looking forward to trying them out. Can't wait until they get here.

PM 2 miles on the treadmill, around 9:40 pace.  Felt just a little tight  in the hamstrings at first.  All systems are 'go' for tomorrow.

More like toe socks, which we all know are very silly. Well hopefully being so in shape will compensate your ego for feeling silly about running around looking like a sasquach. :)

Let me know how they work out!

haha, those are some silly looking shoes. Every time I look back I want to giggle.

From Lybi on Tue, May 27, 2008 at 11:25:36

Do you really think they are that funny looking? I think they are cute! The very height of fashion...well, ok, they do look a little bit funny, but they are cool in a quirky sort of way.

But we all know that your primary objection is that they'd never fit you, Mr. My-toes-are-longer-than-the-whole-rest-of-my-foot. Honestly, you are some kind of throw-back to 3 toed sloths or something.

From Tom on Tue, May 27, 2008 at 11:30:00

Lybi I think the FiveFingers rock! They remind me of the shoes/boots that construction worker guys would wear sometimes in Japan while I was a missionary there years ago. I think maybe I gotta get me a pair of those.

From Shauna on Tue, May 27, 2008 at 11:50:58

OK, you have piqued my curiosity about these five-fingers. Let me know how the sizing is (and if they work OK on Phoenix pavement in the summer!).

Once you have those shoes you can stop looking down at the sidewalk to see the stickers and glass and look up to watch for mad dogs and mountain lions. Yeah!!

From laura on Tue, May 27, 2008 at 18:17:29

Hee,hee. I might have to agree with Grant - those things make me giggle. I can't even wear the socks with separate toes - you'll have to tell me if you like these. I think I would first try Heber's shoes from Nike that mimic barefoot running - but they wouldn't be nearly as fashionable. : )

I'm offically intrigued. I may have to try this out! Has anyone seen the SnL (or maybe its Mad TV?) skit about Jack Johnson's barefoot "shoes"...?

From will on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 01:06:07

Thanks for sharing the shoe pic - I did not realize shoes were available for barefoot running. I have been enjoying barefoot running in the grass, but stray objects always slow me down. The toe shoes would eliminate that problem. I will be self-conscious running in them, though, so I may have to become a late night runner.

Those are really super cool!

Clyde got a pair and wore them our whole trip in Orlando. He really likes them. I'm tempted to get some myself.
