Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

This was my first time running a 10K since I started training as a runner. I ran it about 3 or 4 years ago when I was trying to be a runner by running 3 miles two or three times a week. This training worked out much better. I was planning on low 50s.

Tom and I started the morning by running from our house, straight into the wind, 3.1 miles to the starting line. I chatted with a few other gals who might be around my same goals but decided not to try to start out or stay with anyone in particular. I knew what I had trained for and wanted to focus on that. One gal wanted me to stay with her but I knew she would go out too aggressive and I didn't want to burn out in the first few miles. She ended up finishing about a minute ahead of me.

I really stuck to the paces I had planned and knew I would be close to 50. When I rounded the last corner and looked at the clock I could see that it said 49:XX. I kicked it into high gear and barely made it before it turned to 50! My Garmin actually said 49:36, so I'm not sure what happened there. But I am thrilled to death to make it in under 50! And to get 2nd in my division adds the icing to the cake!

I am also happy for Tom as he was hoping to get under 40 or better yet under 39. He came in at 38:53. Of course, his age division in our town is very competitive! So he ended up with 4th in his age. (He's a little, or maybe a lot, disappointed that the guy who took 3rd came in 3 seconds before him!)

It's fun to say we both felt really good about today's race!  One more race down on the countdown to St. George!  Happy Pioneer Day Y'all!

CONGRATS! You did awesome! Way to get a PR! Way to kick it in at the end that is tough to do sometimes!

From Christi on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 14:00:49

SWEET! Great job! You broke 50 min, this was my secret hope for you! Way to go!

From Ian on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 14:03:52

Well done Kim! Congratulations on the PR and 2nd placing in your age div. Good show, digging in hard at the end to get your sub 50.

From Tom on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 14:05:41

Kim you ran great today as usual! Very impressive especially since we walked around Lagoon in the sun all day yesterday and you didn't really taper for the race. You should do great at Hobble Creek and SF 1/2 marathons and of course at the biggie and 1st full marathon ever SGM!

Coach Tom will try not to do any else stupid (like run you up to the top of Loafer)to mess you up!!!

Congratulations!! You flew through the 10k. Breaking the 50 min someday I will be there. See you on Saturday!

From josse on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 14:56:50

You are really running strong. And to pull that time with running 3 miles before hand. Great job on the PR! Keep up all the hard work.

From josse on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 14:57:53

BTW- I figure if we would have ran des news we would have ran 2-3 mins faster today.

From Brent on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 15:20:49

Kim, how far was I off on the prediction, great PR and second in your division. 200 commando points for the PR and 200 for second in your division.

Nice race on a fair and tough course.

Stay Kool, Faster and Faster, B of BS Rools out

From Tom on Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 15:26:24

Brent - Kim probably would have hit your prediction if she wouldn't have started pretty far back in the pack. I figure she lost a good 20 seconds or so being so far back. I think she has earned the right to move up a ways.

I think watching you finish was the highlight of a good morning for me. You were flying! Awesome run! Seeing you and Tom meet up and beam at each other about how well you had both done was another nice moment. I'm glad I chose to try and be a Speedy Spaniard this morning.
