Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

OK....so these are my didn'ts

  1. warm up
  2. cool down
  3. stretch
  4. pack water
  5. take any Gu

These were my dids

  1. run with Koby
  2. run faster than I planned
  3. feel WAY better than expected
  4. place numero uno in my age division

Tom and I helped get the race packets together last night and then helped with some set up and packet pick up this morning.  That made it hard to get the warm up in.  Koby introduced himself to me and we knew we wanted similar times.  So we lined up together.  It was then, (just moments before the start), that I realized my water and gus are in the truck.  Being involved with the set up threw me off a bit.  I decided not to stress on it.

I was planning on getting 1:55 and coming in feeling really good.  But that changed right from the beginning.

I was very pleased that hardly anyone passed me.  Unlike Hobble Creek where I felt like I got passed by 10-15 people in the last few miles.

At mile 12 I could tell Koby had a little more to give than me.  I told him I'd see him at the finish line.  It felt good and gave Koby and I a lot of hope for St. George.  Thanks Koby!

Tom had a great race.  Can you believe he can take 12th overall and only 4th in his age group?!  Bummer!

Oh, and to all of you lurkers out there who come up and tell me you read my blog and others blogs....get on the blog already!  You know who you are!

Great to meet JulieC today!  Great job on your race!

Kim!!! What an AWESOME race you had!! Can't even imagine what it must feel like to come in 1st place in your division. AMAZING!! Alright, so I am totally cheating by lurking ... I admit it ... but, I just feel slightly inadequate blogging with all of you diehards!! :) Anyway, it was wonderful to meet you. I also have 5 kids and so love reading your stuff. Sorry - that is totally snoopy, I know. I really am considering signing up officially. Perhaps I'll be able to pull the trigger soon!! :) Congrats again to both you and Tom. You did better than GREAT!!!

From MichelleL on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 16:16:41

As I said this morning, this is a great time, and it indicates that you need to bump all three long term goals to short term, and then make a fourth goal :)

From Bonnie on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 16:23:01

Whoooohooo! Great job Kim!

...finally you got home and wrote your report - I have been looking every hour for it!

From josse on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 16:28:46

You do realize most people that do this race and SG double there time. Give or take a couple of mins. And do you realize this put you at a 3:35-3:40. Which I think is toatally in your reach. I would just start out on the conservite side and hammer it out in the downhill. Great job Kim!

From Tom on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 16:41:38

Kim you really rocked it out there today! Great race, you ran very smart and very speedy. Hey congrats on the 1st place in age and 2nd overall masters. Quite amazing what you've been able do on 1 year of running with the very impressive, disciplined approach you have taken. I think the best is yet to come (not just talking about running either!)

From kellies on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 17:36:50

Kim, Holy COW!!! You are AWESOME. I think that the purple ponytail is a keeper. Will you help me find my "signature piece"?

Man, reading your post kinda makes me wish that I had run today with all of you, but never the less, it was so great seeing you and running with you for a minute. You are going to do awesome at the marathon. You have worked hard, trained hard, done everything the right way. I am really proud of you and know that you are going to kick butt at the SGM. Keep up the good work Kim, and again, GOOD JOB TODAY!!

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 18:04:56

Great job, and way to be number one in your age group! That is so cool.

From kobyhud on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 18:25:24

No, Thank you!!

Always easier to do a run with someone to talk to. (even breathless talking)

I am excited for you, that BQ is totally in your grasp. Congrats!

From MarcieJ on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 19:35:41

Wait to go Kim! You ran awesome! SO excited for you.

From Christi on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 22:54:16

WOW- WAY TO GO! and gu-less too! Honestly I don't think I've seen this must improvement in anyone else on the blog over such a short period of time. You are doing SO GREAT! Thrilling! (I can symphathize with Tom today. I was 13th overall and 4th in my age group today- bummer)

From Jody on Sat, Sep 06, 2008 at 23:48:45

Way to be tough today! You did awesome! I definitely think you will be 3:30 - 3:40 at SG - YOu are so prepared!!

From lisa on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 13:54:55

Great job Kim! Your report makes me wish I'd done that race. I am nowhere near your splits but that is my next goal after completing my first marathon - work on improving my speed. I'll have to talk to you more about your specific training. Once again, great job and congrats.

From Kerry on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 14:19:29

Congratulations on the first in AG award! As Tom said, your best is yet to come. You've really made amazing progress over this last year!

From Brent on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 14:41:41

Kim, always smiling, 500 commando points for the age division win. More importantly, your consistecy, recovery, and repeat has really impressed over the last few months.

From Kim on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 18:46:32

Thanks to all of you for your congrats and enthusiasm and commando points! I'm saving up those commando points to cash in at St. George! Actually, I think I cashed in on a few of them yesterday with this race! I really felt good!

It has been an amazing ride to St. George this past year! Not many of you out there know the hard year that it has been for me. Running and training for this marathon has been a bit of therapy in many ways. I have dedicated my training and my marathon to my brother, Shane and to my sister in law, Susan. I also dedicate it to a husband who has really been there for me! Thank you Tom, you are a very good man!

Sorry everyone, I feel a little overwhelmed sometimes. Emotions are sometimes very close to the surface. You all just got to get a small dose of the gratefulness that I have for life, love, family, the gospel and even running.

From cody on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 22:40:43

Nice Job Kim! You have sure made some great strides in the last year and will continue to improve at an alarming rate. Coach Tom is a big help and I look forward to seeing the Lee duo at SGM!

From Meadow on Sun, Sep 07, 2008 at 23:41:19

Way to go! Great time and great splits too :) Watch out St. George, here you come!

From Teena on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 00:02:53

Alright Kim ... you are hilarious!! Got your message while I was lurking on Cal's blog!! Okay ... I'm legit now, right??

Talk soon!

From Lybi on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 00:10:19

Wow Kim! What a great race! You are some kind of royalty now for placing first in AD, don't you think? At least a duchess, I should think. Great job, my lady!

From Cal on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 10:22:34

Congratulations on a great race! You've had a great year so far. I can't wait to see how you'll do at St. George now.

BTW, that's really cool of you and Tom to help out with the race and make it a successful event.

From Terry on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 15:47:46

You continue to impress! Great job on the race and getting a 1st in your AD. Stay injury free and have fun at SG.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 18:15:16

You should be able to BQ in St. George. Based on the erratic nature of your splits and on how long it took you to get from 13 to the finish I assume they are from Garmin, correct?

In any case, in St. George just go out at about 8:10-8:20 pace and see what happens. If it does not feel good, back off and plod to the finish, but I think it would be worth a shot to attempt a BQ. Nothing to be afraid of. Even though you've never run a marathon you have done more training than many "veteran" marathoners.

From Kim on Mon, Sep 08, 2008 at 18:52:24

Hey Sasha,

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, the splits are from my Garmin, but I am also an erratic runner. I have a hard time being really consistent from one mile to the next. I usually run how I feel. If I feel good I speed up, if I don't I slow down. I also usually have a bit of a kick at the end, which I had on this race. I did kick it up a notch at the end. Whatever the case, my hope is to BQ at STM! Thanks again Sasha and everyone else! 26 days to SGM!
