Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

If you could see me now you would see a really sad face.  :(  No golden ticket for me today.  Tom and I stuck around waiting forever until they were to announce the winner of the guarantee spot for SGM.  In order to qualify for this one you had to submit a story of overcoming adversity.  I had an email from the race director after entering my story that sounded promising.  Then today I talked to the race director to find out when they would be announcing the winner and she sounded like I would want to make sure to be around for the announcement.  I really felt encouraged because I knew there weren't a whole lot of people who had entered.  Well, they finally got around to the big announcement.  But just before they did it, the race director discretely came over to me and told me she was really sorry that my story didn't get chosen and she wanted to give me a $30.00 gift certificate for a hair salon.   She said the girl who won was hit by a van at mile 21 of last year's Ogden Marathon.  Another lady came over right after and asked when they would tell the winner and she said, "in just a minute."  But she didn't offer any sympathy or gift certificates to her.  I kind of wonder if they were planning on my story until a late entry by the winner and it made the race director feel bad for me or something.  Anyway, I'm still on the lookout for ways to get in the SGM.  I will not give up!

As far as the race goes, I planned to run this one at whatever speed my body wanted to without feeling yucky.  I ran a 5K a few weeks ago and want to push hard on one next week too.  So I didn't even wear the Garmin or a watch or anything.

Two very fun things to this race.  1. Very pretty throughout the gardens at Thanksgiving Point.  And 2.  I passed people all the way from the beginning to the end.  And that was without an all out effort.  Oh...I just remembered a third fun thing... Free Cinnabons and Ice cream bars at the end!

Kim your attitude is great and you ran great today! Sorry you didn't get the ticket today, I really was thinking you would be the one. But then again it's tough to compete against a hit-by-a-van-while-running-a-marathon-while -pregnant-with-twins story.

Not to worry though, this was just the first round (or I guess that would be 2nd round?) in the SGM entry quest. We can look forward to helping some great charities and/or Heart of Holladay 5K, etc. and get you IN!

I'm interested in your "overcoming adversity" story. Willing to share?

From Clay on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 14:11:34

Way to hang in there Kim, and great race! Stay positive, I know you will get into SGM... You deserve to get in and I know you will.

From Bonnie on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 15:26:11

Sorry Kim, I will keep sending good thoughts your way! If it doesn't happen it must because there is a better race waiting for you out there!

I might run the Holladay run just for you (but I am not sure since we might still be a bit jet-lagged from our trip). But if volunteering for anything might help, let me know!

Oh man! I totally agree with you about what probably happened--you were going to win, until the car crash victim turned up late with tears in her eyes. Gift certificate, eh? Not bad.

Great job on racing today while taking it "easy"! That time does not look easy to me at all! Can't wait to see what you do next week.

From Brent on Sat, May 17, 2008 at 19:09:43

Kim, that darn Willie Wonka, it is like thinking you are getting something for XMAS and Santa does not deliver. Good attitude about the whole thing. Your easy pace was your race pace not long ago. Keep up the great training, never know when the next run is a race.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

I hate the waiting after the races! And then disapointment:( Hopefully (with some luck you'll get the golden ticket!:)

Sorry you get you entery into the race. You will get in if you try hard enough. I did a couple of years ago. You just have to be overly annoying with calling the race directors. And you still have the 5k that people put your name on the entry.

From Ian on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 11:01:21

Great race Kim, passing folk from beginning to end must have been a nice feeling, and without an all out. Sorry about the race entry, if you'd have known you could have spun a similar story, raced with tyre prints on the back of your race shirt and clutching a piece of bumper....next time!

From Michael on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 11:23:52

I was probably one that you passed at some time. Sorry you didnt get your SGM entry, but hopefully you will find a way. Yes beautiful place to run with gardens although the narrow winding path slowed me down. We waited for awhile too seeing if they were going to announce anything, finally I asked if my kid (Falcon) got anything for being fastest kid (11th overall) and he happily got a huge bag of gummy bears

I should have posted that I had registered for the race. I really was thinking I might not make it because I was feeling so crapy and then the rest of the week flew by. I would have liked to meet you also.

I might have some good news for you tho.

My neighbor has a relitive that was going to run the s,g,m and can't and she asked me if I wanted her spot. I was debating it but yesterday the doctor said no running at all for 2 weeks or execise that bends my knee at all. And if I have to have surgery then I will definatly be out for awhile. If the spot is still avaliable to me I will tell them I want it and you can take it. I will find out tomarrow for you. (Cross your fingers)

From Kim on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 18:54:35

Thanks kt, but I don't think they can change the name once it's been selected. I really want to run it under my own name. I will keep trying some of my other options. If it can be changed, I would be thrilled to take her place. Good luck on the knee issues!

From Kim on Sun, May 18, 2008 at 20:00:03

I appreciate all the support and encouraging words. I am now going to plan B. If anyone out there is running the Heart of Holladay 5K on June 14th and doesn't have someone they are wanting to put a name in for to win the guaranteed entry there, I would LOVE and BEG for you to put my name as the SGM hopeful. It's just 6 letters long, so it doesn't take much work to write it. Just write Kim Lee in the spot where it says SGM hopeful. It has to be in the pre registered batch, (no same day). There is more info on this in the discussion board under St. George Marathon and Heart of Holladay 5K.

Also, to guest: I don't think I'll be adding my story to my blog at this time. But thanks for your interest.

Nice time on the 5k! Did you get an AD award? Sorry about the story fiasco! What a bummer! I love Running w/ Angels, I did it a few years ago and would have ran it every year if I hadn't moved to SG!
