Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

I didn't want to go running this morning, but I knew that wouldn't stop me.  I was glad Tom would be joining me but wasn't sure I was excited about a 5 mile tempo run.  We started out with a 2 mile warm up.  For the tempo he said I could have a window of 8:00-8:30.  The first mile was 8:40 and I was thinking that would be all I could give today and I would be lucky to make it three miles at that pace.  It was slightly uphill and into the wind.

Mile 2  I was able to pick it up a bit to 8:19.

Mile 3 was 8:32.

Mile 4 was 8:01 and

Mile 5 was 7:49.

I'm glad I made it through all 5 miles.  I know it wasn't very consistent, but I had to run how I was feeling at the moment.   I feel good about finishing strong.  I tried my new hydration belt out today.  I thought it might bother me to wear it, but it was quite nice.

Kim you did great today. Like you said the first mile was uphill and into the wind so the 8:40 time was more like an 8:00 effort.

Most impressive you always seem to be able to finish so strong on these runs! I wish I could do that! Really for this run 8:30 ave pace would have been dandy and you ended up averaging around 8:15 which is REALLY awesome!

Now take care of yourself today, rest up, no stress, relax, etc.... you deserve to have a GREAT day today!

Great run!!! Sounds like you have a fabulous cheerleader/husband/coach!!! Keep up the great work!

From Kim on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 10:35:55

Let's see...first I get to go unload the yard waste from the truck, then get a load of mulch, then unload the load of mulch, then off to Mountain View Hospital for the yearly Mamogram, the to the grocery store....hmmmmm sounds like the beginning of a nice, relaxed, no stress day! :) But thanks anyway! I'll make it a nice, relaxed evening instead.

I was submitting my last comment at the same time as you, Leslie. I just want to tell you that, "YES! I DO have a fabulous cheerleader/husband/coach! And I have some great blogging cheerleaders too! Thanks!

From Tom on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 10:50:44

Kim I'm sure Tyler and the other kids would cheerfully, happily and without a single whine or complaint, take care of some of those tasks, don't you think? ;-) But I'm afraid you're on your own as far as the mammogram is concerned. Yeeouch!

But really if you can squeeze in a 30-60 minute nap in there sometime I think it would be a good thing. Coach Tom thinks the rest is just as important as the running for overall improvement and well-being. And hubby Tom would be happy to help with the groceries tonight if it can wait that long.

FANTASTIC RUN!!! you are just on fire firl!!!

I like your day's plans! Sounds very real. I wish my Hubby would insist I nap! I don't think he cares if I do, but he's never ordered me to nap with out ulterior motives!

From Brent on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 11:53:36

Kim, impressed with your recovery from the long run and doing a tempo today. Stronger, getting stronger. By the way, the date will be Sept 27th for the fun run, more details to follow over the next few weeks. It is pretty darn Kool, to have a spouse coach so supportive.

Stay Kool, nap in the mulch?, B of BS Rools out

GREAT JOB! Your new blog name should be Speedy Gonzalez! It sounds like we run similarly: start out slower than planned, but able to pick it up later on. FYI-that will be a GREAT confidence booster in the later stages of a half or full marathon!

Your workout inspired me: if my foot behaves today, maybe I'll try a tempo run tonight.

From Kim on Tue, Jul 29, 2008 at 13:22:18

Marion,

Coach Tom's ulterior motives for my nap stems from him also being Hubby Tom. Hubby Tom knows Runner Kim is a much happier Wife/Mother Kim if she gets her much needed beauty sleep!

Brent,

I'll put the 27th on the calendar! Sounds like fun! You'll have to let us all know what we can do to help! And, YES! I do have a pretty supportive spouse/coach and kids!

Shauna,

Why don't we live near each other? We would make great running buddies! It's hard to find someone near your same level and willing to put forth the effort! I look forward to meeting you at St. George! I hope your foot behaves for you and you have an awesome tempo run tonight!

It is good to see someone else getting new gadgets.

That look like a great run!
