Barefoot running on the grass with the little girls. After mile 3, Anna showed up with a bike. She wanted me to help her learn how to ride it. Within 5 minutes she was pedaling all over the soccer field. It's remarkable how different those two are. Ash wouldn't have anything to do with a 2-wheeler till she was 6, and that was with a lot of cajoling on my part and tears on hers. Anna, on the other hand, jumps on and by sheer force of personality learns how to ride it when she's four. Anyway, after the bike lesson, I ran a couple more. This is what counts as a taper week. So far I'm not sick yet. I think my illnesses this week are psychosomatic. This morning my throat is sore and my snot is green, but no flu symptoms. I retired around 9:30 to try and reset toward the 4 a.m. wake up on Saturday. I'll be glad when Saturday rolls around. Meanwhile, I've got the baseball playoffs to keep my mind off things. Even right this minute, my stomach is in butterflies while this race is on my mind, on which I have NOTHING riding, other than 50 bucks and some time. How do you get your head right?
