2014 TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE:
TBD

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run 6-days a week and maintain a decent base level of fitness. Upwards of 50-60 per week would be great. Adjust to my new work position, use time wisely, and keep negative stress at bay. Hopefully make a good run at Ogden this spring.

Balance family, work, running, and the other important things in my life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy running and continue doing it consistently. Stay healthy and avoid injury as much as possible. Have fun!

Continue chasing PRs while I still can, particularly in the marathon and half marathon. Explore new races, improve training, build friendships, and learn from the wisdom and experience of the numerous great runners here in Utah. Run well into my old age.

Personal:

I live in Sandy, UT with my wife (Lindsay) and 2 kids. I love running the roads through my neighborhood and near Little Cottonwood Canyon. I also do a fair amount of treadmill running at the Life Centre Athletic Club. Aside from running, I love road and moutain cycling.

A.M.- Ran from my hotel on Central Avenue (Route 66) about two miles to the Paseo Del Bosque Trail. Nice paved, low-traffic trail. Went out on it a couple miles or so and then came back the same way I had went out.

A.M. - Interesting morning. Last night, shortly after I got home from work, my wife and I heard this weird loud bang that sounded like it came from our basement or the garage. At first it scared us that a burglar might be in the house or that something heavy had fallen. I went to go check it out, but did see anything noticeable. Went to bed and didn't think much of it. This morning, I went to open the garage to head down to the gym and the door wouldn't open. It was then I noticed that the spring had busted (hence, the noise last night). My double-car door was too heavy for me to lift, so the cars were trapped inside and driving to the gym wasn't an option. I improvised and put on some warmer closes and headed outside for a nice 9-miler. I altered my normal route and finished at my mom's house so I could borrow her car for awhile to take my wife to work and the kids down to the in-laws. Fortunately, today is a day I can work out of the house.

Bummer that it happened, but grateful that it did when it did (would have been a bigger deal had it happened when I was out of town, putting my wife in a tough situation). Grateful that my wife's work and both of our folks' houses are within running distance from home so that we weren't too inconvenienced.

My wife is running the SoJo half marathon tomorrow; her first race since 2005. It'll be fun to be at the finish line with the kids supporting her this time, instead of the other way around. She should be under 2 hours, but I suspect she'll be down to her PR range (1:35'ish) by the time Ogden rolls around next spring (assuming we get in).

A.M. - I was out the door by 5 this morning to get my run in before Lindsay (wife) needed to leave the house for her race. Beautiful morning, again. Leaves all over the roads. Venus shining brightly in the east. This morning was a little warmer than the last few. A little breezy too. Wore arm warmers, but didn't need them. Did my standard 12-mile route; Little Cottowood Rd/Wasatch triangle, normal direction. This is my longest run since SGM.

About 9, the kids and I headed down to the SoJo finish line. Saw the half winner (I didn't recognize him) come in around ~1:18. Met up with my buddy Scott and we saw our wives finish within seconds of each other in ~1:48 (5th (Lindsay) and 6th (Heather) places in their division). I think there were three marathon finishers under 3 hours. The winner, who I didn't recognize, came in around ~2:48.

Very good race for Lindsay considering she had a kid just 5 months ago and this is her first race since '05. She felt good most of the way and was pleased with her result. It'll serve as a good confidence booster for her to get back into doing races. She'll no doubt have faster times as she does more races over the next year.
