2014 TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE:
TBD

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run 6-days a week and maintain a decent base level of fitness. Upwards of 50-60 per week would be great. Adjust to my new work position, use time wisely, and keep negative stress at bay. Hopefully make a good run at Ogden this spring.

Balance family, work, running, and the other important things in my life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy running and continue doing it consistently. Stay healthy and avoid injury as much as possible. Have fun!

Continue chasing PRs while I still can, particularly in the marathon and half marathon. Explore new races, improve training, build friendships, and learn from the wisdom and experience of the numerous great runners here in Utah. Run well into my old age.

Personal:

I live in Sandy, UT with my wife (Lindsay) and 2 kids. I love running the roads through my neighborhood and near Little Cottonwood Canyon. I also do a fair amount of treadmill running at the Life Centre Athletic Club. Aside from running, I love road and moutain cycling.

Rest day. Cold has really set in. Our whole household has it. We were quarantined at home all day.

A.M. - Easy miles on the treadmill in 35 minutes. My cold has really set in now. It was one of those rare morning where my motivation to get up and go running was extra low. But I did it, and felt good in the process, so that's a victory:

5 minutes @ 8.5 mph, flat
30 minutes @ 9.0 mph, flat

A.M. - Standard Little Cottonwood Rd. route out to the park and ride and back. My cold is still in full swing. This was a very slow run.

A.M. - 35 minute treadmill run at the Life Centre. I felt like garbage when I woke up this morning. The run was okay though. By this afternoon, I definitely started feeling better. Though I think my cold has turned the corner, I'm sure the stuffiness will linger for a few more days.

Treadmill went as follows:

5 minutes @ 9.0 mph, flat

5 mins @ 9.5 mph, flat

5 mins @ 10.0 mph, flat

20  mins @ 10.0 mph, with inclines (5 mins each) of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0

A.M. - Normal home course route, but had to cut of ~1 mile due to time. Again, another slow run. The cold was still really inhibiting.

A.M. - Can I even count this as a run on this blog?! The cold is still very much with me. I intended to do 5-5.5 miles easy on the treadmill today. Started out fine at 9 mph for 5 mins, then 10 mins at 9.5 mph (all flat). It was hard to breath and I couldn't stop coughing. I tried to kick it up to 10.0 mph for a few mins, but the coughing really got out of hand. I'm sure people were watching me thinking to themselves that I had black lung or something. After only ~2 mins at 10.0, I kicked it back down to 9.5. The coughing persisted and after only a minute or so, I hit the kill switch and went home....Stupid cold.

A.M. - Another really slow run on the old out-and-back course. Would have loved to have gone longer, but time constraints, my cold, and my left shin (its acting up again) were factors contributing to why that didn't happen.

Overall, a pretty lousy, low mileage, low motivation week of running for me... I apologize that my last several posts, including this one, have been downers. Things will turn around soon.

Above all, I'm just grateful for the many blessings I enjoy, including the ability to run and all the good things it affords.
