2014 TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE:
TBD

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run 6-days a week and maintain a decent base level of fitness. Upwards of 50-60 per week would be great. Adjust to my new work position, use time wisely, and keep negative stress at bay. Hopefully make a good run at Ogden this spring.

Balance family, work, running, and the other important things in my life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy running and continue doing it consistently. Stay healthy and avoid injury as much as possible. Have fun!

Continue chasing PRs while I still can, particularly in the marathon and half marathon. Explore new races, improve training, build friendships, and learn from the wisdom and experience of the numerous great runners here in Utah. Run well into my old age.

Personal:

I live in Sandy, UT with my wife (Lindsay) and 2 kids. I love running the roads through my neighborhood and near Little Cottonwood Canyon. I also do a fair amount of treadmill running at the Life Centre Athletic Club. Aside from running, I love road and moutain cycling.

Rest day. Didn't do anything physical. Didn't even walk to church. Just went to church, watched the Superbowl and ate too much pizza and junk during the process.

A.M. - 60 minutes of treadmill fun. Good run, went as follows:

5 minutes @ 9.5 mph, flat
5 minutes @ 10.0 mph, flat
20 mins @ 10.0 mph with progressive inclines: 3 mins each at 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0. Then 5 mins at 3.5.
Then back to flat for the rest of the run, speed as follows:
5 minutes @ 10.0 mph
10 mins @ 10.5
10 mins @ 11.0
4.5 mins @ 11.5
30 seconds @ 12 for the heck of it.

Felt much better today than Friday when I last attempted this. I'm happy to report that my Aegis haven't been causing me to get that hot spot under my right foot for the last serveral times I've worn them.

A.M. - Little Cottonwood out-and-back with a slight twist so I could end up with 9. Nice and easy. Total time was a little over an hour.

A.M. - 60 minutes on the treadmill:

5 minutes @ 9.5 mph, flat
5 @ 10.0, flat
20 mins @ 10.0, with 5 mins each at inclines of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 (was going to try and stick it out for 5 more each at 3.0 and 3.5, but wasn't feeling it today, so decided to wuss-out)
5 mins @ 10.0, flat
5 mins @ 10.5, flat
5 mins @ 10.0, 1.5 incline
5 mins @ 10.0, 2.0 incline
2.5 mins @ 10.0, flat
2.5 mins @ 10.5, flat
2.5 mins @ 11.0, flat
2.5 mins @ 11.5, flat

+cool down, gravitron, and a pathetically short session of stretching. Besides not being able to stick the incline like I planned, still a good run. Felt good despite not having slept well last night.

A.M. - 60 of flat incline treadmill running at the Life Centre. My other two gym runs this week involved incline, so I wanted to take this one flat and a little faster. Went as follows:

5 mins @ 9.5

5 mins @ 10.0

25 mins @ 10.5

20 mins @ 11.0

5 mins @ 11.5

cool down, gravitron, stretching, off to busy season!

A.M. - Did the reverse Wasatch/Little Cottonwood Rd triangle this morning. I had intended to do 14 today by essentially doing the same route as last Saturday (except with the reverse triangle this time) and then tacking on a extra mile at the end, but about mile 9 my tummy wasn't having it and I knew I wasn't going to make it without a pit stop. Fortunately, I was close to home to make a quick stop (9.7 mi. at that point; 6:48/ave mi). Then went back out for another 4.4 more, but instead of finishing the originally planned route, I just improvised by twisting and turning on various roads in my neighborhood (6:40/ave mi for the 4.4). I hate having to make stops in the middle of a run, but occasionally the gutt has a mind of its own. Still a decent run. I plan on doing a 15-miler [uninterrupted!] next Saturday.
