Hey Jake and Rob, could you guys check out an article I linked to my blog? We are trying to raise awareness of this case before nationals. Thanks!

Tomy - Will Jared be able to come back for track? I agree it's a silly reason to forfeit a season. The NCAA can be wacky sometimes. A good lesson to always avoid costume runs.
Rob - Busy, busy, busy week. Feeling great in terms of running, though. Good session yesterday and looking forward to a long run on Sunday. Exciting couple weeks of training coming up - the very marathon specific stuff, my favorite. Just haven't been at my desk or on the computer much.

Jared still has his track season thankfully, but the NCAA said that he's lucky they didn't take away his track eligibility as well because of the road part of the 5k. (The Mt. Sac course)
And he simply did the 5k because he was already there and needed to get in a workout that day. Despite the noncompetitive-ness and unofficial atmosphere to the race, what the real injustice is, is that Jared's entire season has been taken away. These other athletes who have 'broken' similar rules, or others who have downright disobeyed the rules, have been granted amnesty, even if they didn't deserve it. The NCAA caved in those cases because those issues were in the more popular sports, and they received media attention. So now, we are trying to do the same.

After reading the article he broke the rules, regardless of the money aspects of the race. If there was sufficient competition knowing the potential outcomes if he participated, he willfully broke NCAA rules and should be disqualified. However immoral those rules are, they were broken and the price must be paid. Sorry about the outcome, hopefully the rules will change.

You may be right about that Kevin. The frustrating thing is how arbitrary and capricious the NCAA is about enforcement.

If he had just denied he did anything wrong (like Johnny Manziel) he'd probably have been reinstated.

The funny thing is that it's not necessarily the right thing that the members of the LDS faith do. It's always the moral thing, and it never dies until you KNOW it was the moral thing. See Davies, Brandon.

Well, Jared got reinstated today to finish off his last cross country season and will run @ the NCAAs. I am surprised that Tomy has not spread the news already.

Yeah it's been an exciting day. We're excited to see what will happen at Nationals!
