Ultimate super-duper-fun Sunday activity day!

#1 - 1.5 mile shakeout run w/ Andrea

#2 - Breaking and entering. While getting our ski gear loaded in the car, we accidentally locked ourselves out of the condo. Andrea was able to use a piece of a plastic cup and pick the lock. It was amazing and only cost us about 15 minutes.

#3 - SKIING! Finally, a day in the alpine. I've put more details and lots of photos on Wasatch and Beyond, but we had a fantastic day up in LCC. Started from Alta, skinned up to Mt Wolverine via Patsy Marley and the cirque traverse, then skied Wolverine Bowl and Stupid Chute. It felt so good to get up high and spend some time in the mountains. I didn't realize how much I missed it.

#4 - Bowling! Quick shower and shoved down some ice cream, then met Fritz and Amiee for a showdown on the lanes. Fritz showed no mercy (and no post-marathon letdown) and beat me by about 100 pins. I was quite happy with my games of 165-130, though. For me, that's about the equivalent of a 1:05 half-marathon.

#5 - 5.6 mile mile run. Andrea biked along so I would keep it easy breezy. It was hot out!

#6 - Re-fueling... this is an ongoing process.

I had a great day today! We're thinking a Brighton BBQ or something like that next weekend if anyone is interested. The resorts will be closed and we can go play in the sun and snow - ski, sled, whatever. Bring the grill, a cooler, etc. Could be fun...

Sweet day! Did you use the new skis?

I think I could give you a run for your money on the bowling lanes.

The refueling could be done more quickly with a pumpkin pop tart. Quite the eventful day for you and Andrea. Thanks for joining us.

Looks fun, I was just thinking today that I never once made it to the mountains this winter. Pretty sad.

Next weekend sounds fun. Is anyone invited?

How do you find time to have so much fun? Oh yeah, you don't have kids. Haha.

From Jake K on Sun, Apr 22, 2012 at 20:45:56 from 67.182.215.126

Gauntlet is thrown. FRB bowling tournament needs to happen! Fritz will be tough to beat.

Didn't use the new skis - they don't have touring bindings, and they are too heavy to lug up via human power anyways :-)

From Jake K on Sun, Apr 22, 2012 at 20:47:27 from 67.182.215.126

yes we ARE kids haha... having our own would ruin that! :-)

we'll see how the weather shapes up for next weekend. If its good, we'll absolutely be up in the mountains and try to organize something.

I just sent you an email.

That looks like so much fun! I think we brought the heat back with us.

You guys are awesome! Skiing in shorts :)

From Superfly on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 10:18:22 from 74.211.21.81

Looks really fun. I haven't been skiing in like 13 years. Seeing these photos makes me want to do it again... and in shorts and a tank!

From Jake K on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 10:19:53 from 155.100.226.54

It turns out skiing in a singlet is not such a great idea if you miss a few spots w/ sunscreen, though... lol... I am massively burned in a few spots :-)

Spring skiing is the best. It so nice to get up to 10-11K feet and be WARM the whole time.

From scottkeate on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 10:25:10 from 216.49.181.254

Looks like you've got the horsing around thing nailed. I just wonder why you and Andrea are so lazy...Why don't you ever get out?

From Lulu Walls on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 13:05:55 from 155.100.212.98

Nice shots! As for bowling, I want a rematch. I forgot my A-game at home :( Brighton BBQ is a good idea! I need to get on my skis at least once this year even if it means only traveling 10 feet.

From Jake K on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 13:08:36 from 155.100.226.54

yeah you can always just loop around the base area! :-)

From RAD on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 21:59:41 from 98.202.23.178

Holy Cow, I can't even beat you at bowling :) Breaking 100 for me is like running a 1:15 half!! I did get up skiing a few times with the fam at Brighton this year and I LOVE it! I'm such a pansy though, I like to stay on the groomers - powder scares me. I'm afraid I'll fall in and no one will find me until spring thaw. Brighton BBQ would ROCK! If I could make it I would definitely be in - but I'd have to bring the fam. Hope you like a little parade :)

From Steve on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 22:17:59 from 68.24.131.161

Sweet ski pics! Wow! Now I'm jealous. I thought it was all gone.

From prlman on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 at 23:09:17 from 67.172.234.159

I'm in for the FRB bowling tournament :) and a BBQ would be the best!! Awesome day for playing glad you made the best of it

From Jake K on Tue, Apr 24, 2012 at 08:28:03 from 155.100.226.54

Snow is still very good above 9000 feet, Steve... so basically you just need to start as high as possible (ie. Alta) to avoid dirt / rocks. I think once the temperatures cool down, we'll get some decent corn this weekend.

I'll let everyone know about the Brighton BBQ. I think we'll be able to do it - it would be a lot of fun. Weekend weather is looking pretty good right now.
