AM - 9 miles. LT Reps: 5 x 1000m (200m jog) in 3:08, 3:06, 3:05, 3:04, 3:01. 3 up, 3 down. The Highland football team was doing some drills on the track but they left lane 1 open for me and I didn't even have to ask them! Good kids.

PM - 4 miles.

Entry lists for the USA Half Champs are posted. The men's field is twice as deep as last year... and a lot more loaded at the top end with big names, too. I find it strange that there are 162 men entered and only 66 women.

At the beginning of this year, my goal for this race was "Sub 65, Top 15-20". Obviously I'm not chasing that kind of time, I'm really just hoping to move back into the 1:06s. But I'm going to guess that 1:04:XX doesn't even crack the top 25 this year (last year I was 27th in 1:06:02). Its a pretty talented field, definitely one of the more competitive road races in the country.

i agree, those HH folks are very mindful of runners in lane one. they need to do a track etiquette workshop at alta. have you ever hurdled a baby in the final 100 meters of an 800? i have. twice.

i should probably add a comment for coach murphy, should he stop by today: you can be at peace knowing that none of the kids yesterday were actually from alta -- looked like age 10 and younger to me. many of them were navigating the track via stroller.

anyway...good workout this morning, jake. i hope you're 'feeling it' for duluth.

I think it has to do w/ their mascot. Highland uses the same stock ram logo that my high school used. EXACTLY the same one. So we have that underlying mutual respect.

Today was the first day I felt like my old self in a while. Andrea worked some sort of voodoo ART magic on my hamstrings and all of a sudden my stride was back. I feel little to no pressure for Duluth... just going to try and run a smart race... but I do wish it was pushed back a few weeks b/c I'm feeling like I'm on the verge of coming into good form :-)

I just think it is awesome you get to be part of such a race! And I personally think you are going to kick some serious @ss!
