AM - 8.5 miles. Warmed up 3 miles straight into a 4 mile tempo in 21:05 (5:18, 5:20, 5:16, 5:11), cooled down 1.5 briskly back home.

PM - 8.5 miles. Ran 3 laps around the perimeter of SHP on the grass, down to the track and bopped through 8 x 200m in 32.7 seconds average (not pushing it too hard, and keeping the recovery 200 at a decent clip), the jogged around some more on the grass until I hit an hour... all continuous. The 200s were just to stretch out my legs and go through the full range of motion.

You are crazysauce! Wow 2 tempo workouts back to back is quite impressive. Great work Jake!

How fast is "briskly"?

From Jake K on Tue, May 22, 2012 at 10:19:41 from 155.100.226.54

"Briskly" is fast enough to get showered and to work way too early again. I should have just kept the tempo going all the way home :-)

You are definitely putting in lots of quality miles these days. With the lower than usual yet faster miles do you feel more or less fatigued?

From Jake K on Tue, May 22, 2012 at 12:56:12 from 155.100.226.54

Unfortunately I accidentally signed up for the triathlon blog format, so its not as easy to visualize on here, but I keep a separate log that breaks down the "fast" miles. In February and March I was actually doing quite a bit more volume of "faster miles" than I even am right now (Avg of ~22 mpw vs. 16-18 the last 2 weeks). But most of that was MP. So I guess the higher-quality workouts have become slightly higher quality.

But to answer your question, I feel like I'm on the verge of bouncing off the walls. When you get used to running 140 miles a week, anything less feels like a continual taper. Hopefully that will translate into some good races over the next couple weeks.

Yeah solid workouts back to back. I know your focus is on some short stuff but I really can't wait for TOU to see you "showcase" your talent there.

Alright - 3 workouts in less than 36 hours...I think it's time for an easy day with NO fast running :)

From Jake K on Tue, May 22, 2012 at 18:22:57 from 67.182.215.126

I think the focus on the short stuff will actually be a good thing for TOU. I've done so much long aerobic work... changing gears a bit, remembering how to make it hurt in races... that should end up helping me put together a good marathon. Cool weather would help too :-)

You amaze me man, keep up the hard work!

Nice couple days of quality. I think if nothing else mentally you will feel fresher. I believe that mental edge will give you a lot more energy to push harder than if you were running the 140 miles per week.
