AM - 7 miles up to work. After today, no more running up the hill for a while :-)

PM - 4 miles, followed by the great shoe experiment. I've developed an annoying "pump bump" on my left heel. I've always had a bit of a Haglund's Deformity, but it hasn't manifested itself in a very long time (5+ years). No doubt, compensating for the right achilles has unleashed the beast. No matter how hard you try not to compensate, you're almost always doing it at some level. Running in an older pair of Kinvara 2s has actually felt the best lately, but they're not really ideal for racing (too soft). I jogged around in all my flats and its a toss up between the Fastwitch 6 and Type A3 (old ones!). My preference is to wear the FT if possible because they have a little more heel lift, so I'll give them a last chance test on my run tomorrow - if they bother the bump too much, I'll go with the ancient A3s.

Time to put a few miles on the jeep, huh? Looking good, Jake!

I'm getting the jeep back today (supposedly!). Its had a nice chunk of time off again (that vehicle is perpetually tapering), so I think the white wolf can handle a few days on the roads.

I heard a rumor that you are taking a day off this week :) Good for you!

You never know what might happen, but the rumors could be true. I've already broken down one barrier w/ that treadmill run, might as well keep rolling with it and really get crazy!

Taper, taper, taper! Now if we can just get you running in long tights and wearing a shirt under your jersey you'll be a real runner afterall. :-)

hear ya about compensation injuries-- got a bump on my heel too and it is pulling on my plantar fascia!! so be careful!! Good luck. From your description I would go with the fast twitches. I used my A5s on the track this afternoon and they greatly aggravated my bony promininence. OUCH. We are all different I am sure you will figure it out.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the eccentric heel raise tip. I've been doing them before and after every run and the pain has gone away completely.

From Jake K on Mon, Feb 25, 2013 at 21:00:27 from 67.177.11.154

The shape of the heel counter is slightly different in every pair of shoes, so it all depends on that and where the bump is. It's interesting how Saucony made the A4 lighter than the A3, but the heel counter comes up a little bit higher, and basically hits right on my bump spot. I don't really want to cut a hole in my FTs, so I'm hoping they work. I wore them for my tempo on Saturday, so I'm optimistic I can get through the race in them.

Tyler, that's great to hear! Amazing how effective that simple exercise is. I've been just doing it twice a day, and it's made a huge difference.
