AM - 7 miles. Started off the morning running 2 miles with Andrea! Yahoo!!! Then I went down to the gully and ran 5 with the Alta XC team.

PM - 5 miles w/ Andrea (bike).

Been thinking a bit about the second half of the year, and where I want my big focus to be. A month or two ago I was toying around with the idea of trying to go after the TOU/STG double. Luckily, that idea only remained interesting for a few weeks. Over the weekend I started thinking about the USA Championships (Twin Cities), especially since they'll cover my expenses and championship races have a certain allure to them... but I don't really want to start a marathon buildup as early as August. Too soon. And with Andrea getting back to normal, we want to travel and go on fun vacations during the summer. So I think CIM is the likely long-term objective for a fall marathon. I want a fast marathon on a legal course. I'm not putting the pressure on myself to start chasing the OT standard this fall (its a long qualifying window!) but I really want to run under 2:20 on an honest course and start moving in that direction. For July/August, though, I'm going to run the local races, and then decide how to move forward based on where I am at that end of the summer. One step at a time. I'd love to somehow fit the TOU Marathon back in the picture, but I don't know if that is realistic, without compromising my chances at accomplishing some of the other goals I have.

You have to count the 2 miles with me! You can't just eliminate that!!!!

Very solid plan moving forward Jake. Race locally over the Summer, have fun, vacation, avoid burning out and peaking too soon and then hit it hard in the fall. I like it!

It was such a great two miles that I'm logging it in my HEART for eternity!

I'm going to sign on to your account and change it then. It makes me sad that you don't even consider our run to be worth any mileage. I guess I should change my blog now to 0 :(

Fine I changed it! :-)

Way to work the guilt trip.

Thanks for being there this morning. How many guys showed up?

I talked to Kramer last night. He's eager to get at it. Can't wait to hear about the conditions at Alta.

Feel free to organize something Saturday morning with Kramer. Maybe Jeremy Ranch?

From Jake K on Mon, Jun 24, 2013 at 14:44:49 from 67.177.11.154

7 showed this morning. They seemed excited to go up to Alta tomorrow.

Saturday is the relays, but I'm planning to probably go up to Jeremy Ranch on Sunday. Of course, Sunday no good for most of the guys.

Sounds like a balanced plan.

Love couple arguments via FRB...

TOU sure is a great marathon, that's all I can say.

From Jake K on Mon, Jun 24, 2013 at 20:03:19 from 67.177.11.154

It is a great race, I love it. That's why it's hard to not run it. I'd love to work it in if I can, but it's really hard for me to come off a marathon and run a good half. We'll see, I don't want to make a decision for a few months...

Great race on sat Jake! Perfectly executed as usual. as for you you could do what I often do and decide the night before :). Were you serious about the you sg dbl? I would love to see you race st g next year after you qualify for the otq in December.

I was serious about going after TOU/STG during most of May, but I'm off the bandwagon now. They are two weeks apart this year, which is actually better than three (less time for fitness to deteriorate... you just have to get the muscles to recover... easier said than done, but its possible).

The reason I was considering STG is because it is, without a doubt, the deepest and most competitive marathon in Utah, and I like being a part of competitive races. Its a big deal here and winning it is significant (locally)... but outside of Utah, the race doesn't have quite the same reputation. A lot of people view it as a cheater course, and if you run well there, the immediate question becomes "well, can you do that on a real course?" (and I understand that perspective as well, b/c I'd be asking myself the same question). So long story short, I'd rather answer the question first and then run the race later when I've already proven myself.
