AM - 7 miles. Got the wolfpack back together for a JAKJAFR, and almost added on an "S" and "A". We'll wait for you next time Susannah! :-)

PM - 9 miles. Met Kevin, Rob, and his XC team for a run up at Alta. Coach Murphy had us do a few easy laps around the parking lot to warm up, then we ran up the dirt road to Albion Basin, did a few laps around the campground, and back down. Perfect evening up there, capped off by a tall glass of cold chocolate milk. Kevin and I agreed that running at 9000+ feet would have been brutal for us when we were in high school!

This is going to be a regular Wednesday night thing for the summer.

If you happed to have a wedding coming up at Snowbird, its beautiful up there right now. I took this picture on my drive down.

It sounds like the name of a weird tree!

i would love to join you guys sometime but for three reasons:

1 - i'm too fast for you.

2 - i live too far away

3 - not enough vowels available to support another "J".

:-)

The train just keeps getting longer. :) Someday I'll come up and be honored to hold up the caboose!

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 20, 2012 at 09:50:46 from 155.100.226.54

nope - the caboose is my spot! :-)

I think we need a new route finder...I've gotten worse!

From Jake K on Wed, Jun 20, 2012 at 09:56:32 from 155.100.226.54

I'd say you did a good job today, no major hills and only one person got elbowed by an angry maniac... overall successful route-finding.

From Lulu Walls on Wed, Jun 20, 2012 at 12:18:46 from 155.100.212.98

Sounds like you need a bike marshall...

...and a mascot!

I just looked at your Duluth photo gallery and I just wanted to caution everyone to visit in January before deciding to move there.

From Farmer's Almanac "Worst Winter Cities" list...

2. DULUTH, MINNESOTA “Frigid” is how many describe Duluth. During the winter, it’s second only to International Falls (“The Icebox of the Nation”) in terms of rank among the nation’s coldest cities. The transition to bitter winter weather is dramatic. In October, the average high temperature is a comfortable 53°F. But by December, it has fallen to 22°F, and by January (the coldest month), it’s only 16°F. An example of how extreme the cold can get here is “The Great Cold Snap of 1996” (January 29 through February 5). During that time, Duluth recorded 164 consecutive hours of below zero (°F) temperatures. On February 2, the low temperature was minus 39°F and the high temperature was minus 21°F. Duluth receives nearly 80 inches of snow, much of it as a result of cold easterly winds flowing over the western tip of Lake Superior, producing local lake-effect snowfalls. But it’s the frigid cold that gets Duluth a spot on our Top 5 list.

Yep, I used to work in Minneapolis and one day I had to drive up to Duluth to do a job in July - just up, three hours of work, and back. So I get into my car in Minneapolis and start driving. When I stepped out of the car two hours later the temp had dropped something like 20 degrees. I found a sporting goods store and bought a UMD Hockey sweatshirt.

Speaking of that, it's 52 right now at Alta.

Duluth - Also apparently a flood disaster. Good thing you guys got out of there when you did. Also, good thing the marathon wasn't this weekend! My father-in-law said the marathon and 1/2 course are completely flooded by Lake Superior!

That's pretty cool. Especially the little blip where we turned around to scoop up Connor at the bathroom.

Sounds like a cheer: Give me an S! Give me an A! What's that spell?

Anyway, the photo is so beautiful it makes me want to cry.

I love running the Summer Rd at Alta. That is a great route.

Albion Basin is one of my favorite areas in the Wasatch. When the wild flowers are at their peak it is incredible. Speaking of weddings- A few years ago MattVH and I were driving up there to run Devil's Castle and there was a bride to be up there taking pictures in her wedding dress. The only problem is she wasn't actually in the dress yet when we drove by and she wasn't able to take cover in time. Bride, thong, wild flowers.

From Jake K on Thu, Jun 21, 2012 at 09:27:36 from 155.100.226.54

Haha Scott that is awesome. Only really cool chicks get their wedding photos taken by Devil's Castle!

Wildflowers will probably actually bloom in July this year. Everything is really green right now so when they come out, its going to be stunning up there.

From Bam on Thu, Jun 21, 2012 at 09:35:21 from 89.204.191.227

All this chat of weddings reminds me: I must check when my anniversary is...

That's a cracking climb - 1000 ft over 4 miles(ish) - and I like the rollers on the top.
