AM - 4 miles.

PM - 35 minutes of pool running + loosening up in the hot tub. After 2 straight nights at the gym (probably the first time inside a gym since college?), I remember why I prefer exercising outside. Not a fan of being inside the box... but the pool is definitely beneficial for the time being and outdoor pools don't sound too appealing right now. Its amazing how many people just sit around and do nothing!

I'm tapering for pool running, obviously.

Although pool running won't feel that much different than this morning did, in terms of being soaked :-)

I've heard that floating is also really good cross training. Thats about all I can do in the water. :)

I read through your blog entries after taking some time away from running and the blog (to ensure I stayed away from running ;-) I think the downtime will make you stronger to break through that plateau and the hamstring all though annoying it's probably a blessing in disguise. Plus skiing season is right around the corner so that should help keep you from going stir crazy!

Erik - yeah, the more I thought about what its going to take for me to make the jump, the more I realized it wasn't necessarily training harder that I needed right now, but instead to let myself get out of shape a little bit. It sounds backwards when you say it, although everyone knows that pretty much every really fast runner takes the downtime. If anything, I've been too insecure to do that after the last couple training cycles and big races. Let the fitness dip down now, and then skyrocket back up :-)

I agree, Jake. Even slow runners, like me, nee some down time. I feel refreshed after taking two weeks off after the marathon.
