AM - 4.6 miles w/ Andrea. Easy run as she gets ready to run the 1/2 tomorrow. I'm already feeling close to 100%... but I'm just going to play it conservative and not do any runs longer than 40-60 minutes until next weekend, at the earliest. My fitness is excellent right now, so I think I have the opportunity to use the aerobic base as a springboard and make a smooth transition to more 5K/10K/HM specific running. My plan is to run Bolder Boulder, Portland Track Festival, and the USA 1/2 Champs. I'm excited about racing more, although 10K workouts are somewhat daunting :-) Less mileage slogging and more quality sessions. If there is a silver lining in the Boston Massacre, its that I bet most of us will bounce back really quick because we didn't destroy our legs like we would have in cooler conditions.

PM - 3 miles around the block.

Yeah there's no rush to jump back into things... it will happen soon enough. And we know once you get rolling again it'll be a while til you get some "off" time again.

BTW- what shoes did you wear at Boston? In all the pictures they looked pretty sweet.

What a great schedule of things coming up! I really want to watch you run a 10k one of these days. The Boston Massacre may actually turn out having a silver lining for you all. Esp you! Your legs aren't as beat up as they could be. Springboard for you into these other races you have planned. Track workouts wooohoo!

Fastwitch 5s in that sweet bright blue color. They are great shoes.

The races in the beginning of June are really my biggest focus for the rest of 2012. If I can accomplish my goals there, I'm just planning to really relax w/ the intensity of training during most of the June/July. We have some fun trips planned during that time.

Fall marathon will not be a huge 3 month buildup like for Boston. Who knows, with all the work I've already put in, that will probably end up being a good thing.

Well we should get some of us together in July and do a fun run. When you tone things down. Trail running with Jun and Scott and Dorsimus is really fun if you are up for that? Or a fun fast running blog 5k with breakfast afterwards would be great as well.

I'll do a fun run anytime!

Amen to that! I'm going to take a break from marathon training as well and focus on running some solid 5ks-HMs this summer too. Smart move with the taking it easy. I think most of us feel the itch to jump back in, but Andrea's experience reminds me to back off and try and enjoy this "break."

I would see the sliver lining in that the legs weren't trashed. When I ran Boston I pushed the hills and it was fun in 2007. 23rd is impressive no matter how you look at it. Your only going to improve in the shorter races in the future. Your anaerobic fitness is insane and it will show.

Sounds like a great plan Jake. I'm looking forward to seeing how fast you can go in those short distances. It should be a nice change of pace for you. I think you'll come out the other side with A LOT of progression in fitness.
