AM - 22 miles. Long run at Jeremy Ranch w/ some new faces up there... great crew this morning... Andrea, Devra, Annie, Scott, Justin, Dan, and Fritz. I think I was in the minority today, as one of the few in the group who hasn't won a major Utah marathon or half this year! A very nice run as always, just kept the pace relaxed and enjoyed it. Averaged a tad over 7 minute pace which is pretty decent up there. Less cows than last week. Maybe they are migrating somewhere else?

I'm feeling pretty strong despite (or, more likely, because of) all the higher mileage weeks. Right now I don't feel like I even ran this morning, let alone ran 22 miles. Recovery is like instantaneous at this point.

PM - 6.2 miles in honor of Galen MF Rupp, who showed that you don't need to be born in the vicinity of the Great Rift Valley to compete on the international level on the track. A decade of hard work and not listening to the critics who doubted what he and Alberto were doing. Very inspiring! What a race!!! That is my highlight of the Olympics... unless he medals in the 5K too! :-)

Sounds like a good time. Don't you have to run in a major Utah Marathon to win one? Oh, I forgot about the running through the weeds 1/2.

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 11:33:15 from 67.177.11.154

True - you do need to run one to win one. But I barely made the podium at the weeds race! :-)

From Tara on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 12:10:50 from 75.169.154.70

Wow, that's got to be a great feeling!! Good for you Jake!

From Adam RW on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 12:20:41 from 67.182.250.241

Glad to see that the bee sting did not linger and that you are in full form. That is great about the quick recovery. It has to feel rewarding to be in such great shape after all your efforts.

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 12:26:40 from 67.177.11.154

I think I recovered from that bee sting before I even realized what has happened :-)

Now I gotta start getting FAST again...

From JPark on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 12:56:57 from 174.52.34.169

Jake, glad I finally got the chance to meet you in person this morning. Great group this morning. Thanks for letting me tag along. Would love to do it again soon.

That's a Bill Rogers kind of week right there. I don't remember 150 mile weeks leading up to Boston, but it's been a while.

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 14:17:11 from 67.177.11.154

I had quite a lot of weeks on the 130-140 range, with a few hitting 150, during the buildup to Boston. Lots more intensity at that point, though. This kind of "big" mileage feels a lot easier :-) Part of why it feels easier probably has to do w/ the weather too... perfect warm and sunny skies everyday vs cold winter mornings.

From prestonmadera on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 14:51:56 from 67.186.200.142

How about the run by Rupp!!

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 14:53:14 from 67.177.11.154

My heart rate is like 200 right now.

WOW WOW WOW

GALEN MF RUPP!!!

From Fritz on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 14:53:45 from 76.27.28.67

Amazing race! I won't spoil it for everyone but that was super impressive.

Unlike you, I feel like ran this morning. And yes, I agree that house chores are mentally and physically more difficult.

From Fritz on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 14:55:56 from 76.27.28.67

ok you guys spoiled it for everyone, not me.

From Jason D on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 14:59:16 from 24.1.80.94

Wow. That was awesome. Heart rate beginning to return to normal....

From prestonmadera on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 15:04:18 from 67.186.200.142

Nobody said what place he took Fritz ;)

From Rachelle on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 17:26:37 from 66.7.127.115

haha still laughing at Rob's comment about running through the weeds. :)

Great miles this AM Jake. I often wonder if you are even human anymore. Did you try the magic Gu again this morning?

That 10k race was seriously so intense. Amazing!!

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 18:14:26 from 67.177.11.154

yes i took a gel again - i found a lemon-lime flavor that tastes sort of mountain dew-ish... its not THAT good, but its not terrible tasting :-)

From DaleG on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 18:19:34 from 66.87.127.93

Any idea if/when they will show the 10k again? My recorder didn't record. Grrr.

Nice mileage for the day and week. You need another .5

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 20:15:44 from 67.177.11.154

I don't know if they will show it again on TV, but you can watch the replays of every event on the NBC website

From Adam RW on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 20:18:11 from 67.182.250.241

Jake, As this e-mail came through NBC is loading it for me. I haven't watched yet and managed to delete anything that might have given it away. Had a wedding this afternoon. In any case, Dale G go here:

I wonder what the nay sayers and blubbering idiots on lets run have to say now.. I almost didn't believe it myself when I saw it.

From Adam RW on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 20:44:53 from 67.182.250.241

There are no words to explain the WOW factor of that race. The teamwork, the cross national spirit, the drive to win, I am shaking after having watched that!!!

From Adam RW on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 20:45:51 from 67.182.250.241

3rd American in 100 years!!! WOW!

From allie on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 21:14:52 from 174.23.146.24

159.5, eh? oh my goodness. nice job.

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 21:18:11 from 67.177.11.154

We were so nervous that someone was going to trip towards the end. Absolutely screaming at the TV during the entire last kilometer. Incredible finish... tactically, Rupp did everything right. Just an amazing performance.

Tim Layden already wrote a great article about the race...

(I didn't want to over-do it and hit 160 this week)

From Rachelle on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 21:18:13 from 66.7.127.115

Jake what time is the marathon going to be on tv in UT tomorrow?

From Jake K on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 21:19:57 from 67.177.11.154

From Lily on Sat, Aug 04, 2012 at 22:40:06 from 67.199.178.95
