AM - 13.5 miles. 4.5 up, 6 mile progression in 31:43 (5:17/mile avg), 3 down. Splits: 5:25, 5:21, 5:20, 5:16, 5:15, 5:05.

Andrea suggested this workout (6 miles starting at 5:30 and cutting down to 5:10) to me last night and I thought it was a better idea than what I originally had planned, so I went with it and I'm glad I did. Felt better than I have recently, and stopping at only 6 miles leaves a lot in the tank for the weekend. Cooled down w/ Coach Andrea herself afterwards.

PM - 4 miles easy.

I sure hope that is a picture of Coach Andrea's V-day present :) What did you name him?

Frank.

I discovered last night that if you just go to Google Images and type in "puppies" you pretty much can't stop smiling for like 2-3 hours.

Now I want one.

Looking at cute pictures also makes you more focused at work. Thanks for the extra productivity today!

I've been to Bestfriends, and used to Donate until I married a "cat" person. Unfortunately those dogs probably have it better than my poor dog, she needs a sheep ranch in Idaho.

You have a smart coach! Nice progression, hopefully it feels like your legs are starting to come back to you.

It hasn't really felt like I lost my legs (in terms of fatigue)... what I noticed today is that its really been a mechanical thing... I haven't been really pushing off my toes the way I normally do (probably b/c I've been so cautious about going through the full range of motion w/ my achilles issue). Today once I got loose and I just focused on good form and pushing off normally - and boom - significantly faster w/ the same effort. So that's my goal for the next two weeks... I need to get back to full range of motion... if I can do that, I think I'll still be able to pop out a good race.

Nice cut down. Those are fun workouts and good workouts to remember in the last hard miles of the marathon when each mile feels a bit harder than the last. I'm glad you are on track again.

Good job.

Awesome progression run Jake! Coach Andrea always knows best. :)

Smart approach and good workout. I think you're right about concentrating on good form: if you have a niggle you tend to overload a different part of the body and then all sorts of ugly things happen. I'll be pinching this idea and using it to combat my achilles niggle.

I've had to be very careful the last couple weeks. Even when you really think you aren't compensating, you probably still are. I'm looking forward to not having to think about this anymore!!!

From Matt Poulsen on Thu, Feb 14, 2013 at 18:12:21 from 98.202.242.213

Nice job, Jake. There is no question you can still pop out a great race!
