AM - 12.5 miles. I had a way too early meeting at work this morning, so I had to start my workout a lot earlier than I would have preferred to! Warmed up 2 miles, then eased into a 10 mile progression run - Splits: 5:38, 5:32, 5:25, 5:20, 5:20, 5:18, 5:16, 5:13, 5:11, 5:06 (53:20 total, Avg pace = 5:20 / mile). Cooled down a half-mile then scurried up to work.  Good aerobic effort to start off the week. It was weird to actually run in the dark... I've gotten used to the constant daylight over the past couple weeks. I come off these Sundays in the mountains all charged up - there is just something about getting up in the alpine that energizes me.

PM - 6 miles. 2 miles around SHP, to the track and right into 8 x 200m (hot/cold) in 31.6 seconds average, then another 2 miles around the park.

Then I locked every set of keys to my jeep inside the jeep as soon as I got home. Awesome.

What kind of sick soul has an early Monday morning meeting? Great tempo/progression run!

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 08:35:50 from 67.199.178.210

When I woke up this morning at 4:45, I looked outside and contemplated a pitch black run. But it felt errie so I chickend out! I do better about 5:40ish these days.

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 08:37:12 from 155.100.226.54

Yeah why do they need me here at 7:15? And doesn't everyone else have to get in a tempo run? :-)

Welcome back - get that shin healed up - we need some more company on the track workouts!

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 08:37:57 from 155.100.226.54

I really shouldn't complain about having to get up extra early one day a week, but whatever! :-)

From Derek D on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 08:59:47 from 166.205.141.106

Great start to the week! Nothing like getting in 10 miles at 5:20 pace before sunrise! Your workouts fire me up.

From Rachelle on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:47:19 from 199.190.170.31

Wow you totally smoked this workout. Sheesh I am incredibly impressed. Always makes Monday go smoother to get a good hard workout in before the work day. And you just keep getting faster & faster!

From Andrea on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:47:59 from 72.37.244.100

You ran that progression run perfectly! Nice work.

There's just something about those mountains :)

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 11:05:18 from 155.100.226.54

Thanks for being nice Andrea, but I had no progression from miles 4-5. I blew the workout! My fitness is ruined!

Seriously though, starting ~5:40 pace is so much easier when you just woke up :-)

From RileyCook on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 16:39:20 from 67.182.253.86

Great workout Jake. Your fitness looks great. And come on, 7:15 is not that early! I have to go in every morning at that time.

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 16:42:50 from 155.100.226.54

I admitted that it was not really a valid complaint! I'm getting soft :-) ... need a good 20 miler through a snowstorm to toughen back up

From Dan on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 17:26:26 from 24.209.83.20

20? If you are getting soft, shoot for 22 in that snowstorm. Nice workout!

From allie on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 18:19:26 from 71.213.50.84

i'm sorry you had to run super early. that must be tough. dark. lonely.

great progression run.

From Jake K on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 18:21:50 from 67.182.215.126

Alright I feel like the biggest complainer ever now!

From Dan on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 18:24:26 from 24.209.83.20

Just feel like it? ;)

From allie on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 06:39:21 from 71.213.50.84

locking keys in the car is one of the *most* frustrating things ever. a couple of months ago, i did it twice within five days. i hope you were able to get back in without being ripped off too badly by a locksmith.

From Adam RW on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 07:15:20 from 155.101.152.123

Bummer about the keys. I totally agree with the fresh mountain air. I take where we live for granted all too often. It is so amazing so close!

People still meeting at 6am tomorrow morning?

From Jake K on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 08:19:29 from 155.100.226.54

We got it open, and we ended up ripping off the locksmith by playing a bit of hardball after they tried to rip me off and we got mad, so in the end it was pretty funny. Time to make a third set of keys! Allie, we wondered if maybe your jeep keys would work in mine. I wouldn't have been surprised if it did! :-)

Adam - yes 6am tomorrow - although the plan for the run is now 6 x 800m on the track. I'll email you.

From Redd on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 14:07:43 from 155.98.5.93

I guess that's why I'm in grad school, 9am is mercilessly early.

From runningafterbabies on Tue, May 15, 2012 at 22:03:14 from 71.195.219.247

I'm glad you got your jeep open. Did you challenge the locksmith to a race?

I don't have a clue how you had energy to pop out a bunch of 200s at sub 4:10 pace after your tempo. Your legs are made of steel.

From Jake K on Wed, May 16, 2012 at 08:31:41 from 155.100.226.54

I'm trying to train my body/brain to think that 4:10 pace is what I should always be running once I'm tired :-)
